5Mindset of the 1920s captured on paper  Jul 07, 2009
By Ann B. Miller
1929 An Upperclass Affair This book is a thoroughly researched, well-written treat. While entertaining in dialogue and psychological profiles of its characters, it is a book that revisits the 1920s in a way that makes the story pertinent to ours of today, and somehow familiar. Its story underpins the problems we face in society today. In a sense it is also a coming-of-age drama that centers on the experience of girls of the flapper era in New York City, with plenty of historical accuracy to set the scene leading up to the Great Depression. The author clearly grasps the mindset of the Roaring Twenties in New York and brings us in for a good close-up. Almost 100 years have passed, yet the characters and situations are recognizable. Mystery, romance, history, and a good read.

5A must read!  Jul 15, 2009
By Suzanne Messere
This is a must read, especially if you're a fan of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Jane Austen. You'll be completely enraptured by Josie and her feisty and engaging personality as you follow her through her various adventures and love triangles that are a behind-the-scenes look into a New York socialite's life during the roaring 20s and Crash of 1929. You'll get an insider's view into the differences between the greed and naivety that fueled that period which also happens to be rather pertinent to today's environment. In addition to the character complexities, I particularly enjoyed the New York architectural references and the level of detail behind the Crash itself and those who saw it coming (e.g., JP Morgan, Joe Kennedy). Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. The only complaint I have is please hurry up with the sequel because I need to know what happens next.

5Great read!  Jul 04, 2009
By Sylvia A. Chai
1929 AN UPPER CLASS AFFAIR takes you to the glittering ballrooms and speakeasies of New York City in the 1920's---the age of Art Deco romance and flappers. The decadent days of the roaring twenties lead to the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and ends as America emerges from the worst days of the Great Depression. I enjoyed the vivid, historically accurately re-creation of the times. This is a compelling love story that whisks you into a by-gone era that resonates today. You'll love it!

By Rascal
1929 is great fun to read! The story just grabbed me from page 1, and pulled me all-too-quickly to the end. I loved Josie and her adventures, and want to read more about her! Manhattan in the '20s just comes alive in this book. I recommend this book highly -- it's fantastic.

5Romance, romance, romance!  Jul 19, 2009
By Otaku Girl "Asian Culture Fan"
Some gals may get their kicks from adolescent vampires or boy wizards, but it's summer and I want a good old-fashioned romance novel--the kind with designer clothes, hardships to overcome, and a real honest-to-goodness man! In other words, a REAL romance novel! 1929: An Upper Class Affair provided me with all the guilty pleasure a girl could ask for... and then some!
