FINALLY ... the media is EXPOSED and EMBARRASSED ! Dec 05, 2009
By Mark Rappaport
"Mark Rappaport"
I read this book in five days. I felt like I was witnessing the election coverage all over again. Unbelievably researched, very well written, and shockingly informative. This book will be relevant forever. Buy it, read it, and learn. I sure did! If you are a die hard Republican, your initial inclination will be to dismiss this book immediately based on the title alone. I understand that. But at some point we must all look for the truth, regardless of our political affiliation. Everyone should read Bernard Goldberg's book, "The Slobbering Love Affair," as well. I read it and it makes some strong points. But "71 DAYS" is mind blowing. It is filled with over 500 pages of in depth analysis and quotes straight from the mouths of renowned media members. It truly is an honest dissection. If you dislike Obama, that is your right. But this book is not about politics. It is about the media, and it gives an indefensible, damaging critique of them. It's not designed to make you an Obama convert - its aim is much broader than that. It will make you look at the media and question how and why they operate the way they do. It will make you realize how insane we have all become from being dependent on them to deliver us critically important information. It will make you cringe. I challenge anyone with the ability to think outside the box - anyone with the willingness to challenge an ideological brand that has been engrained in you - to read this book and come away feeling the same. You won't. Anyone with an ounce of interest in the reality of current events or the way America is receiving its information must read this book. Mark my words!

"Liberal" press debunked! Jan 28, 2012
By Rosalie I don't watch much TV news and read newspapers and magazines infrequently, so I had bought into the myth of the liberally biased press until I read 71 Days! The conservative bias of Fox News didn't surprise me, but that of the rest of the main stream news did. Having an intelligent and knowledgeable observer, who shared my belief in Barack Obama's sincerity, track the various news media over the 71 days of the 2008 campaign was enlightening to say the least. This book was amazingly researched, intelligently written and wonderfully informative. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in an objective look at the press coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign.

A Treasure That Historians Will Use as a Resource For Years to Come Oct 14, 2009
By Gordon Prentiss
"History Buff"
Very well written. This is an outstanding read. I was surprised that one reviewer of this book claims that it is "inaccurate" and "revisionist at best." How can hundreds of documented quotations, taken live straight from the mouths of talking heads or taken daily from pages of print during the election be inaccurate? One may disagree with the book's commentary, but commentary is opinion. On the other hand, facts are facts, and by definition cannot be inaccurate.
Revisionist? How can a book written daily in real time be called revisionist? "Revisionist" means to change a historical perspective or to rewrite history. It appears to me that the author was taking down history as it was happening and that the reviewer did not bother to read the book to see that it is, in fact, a daily journal of events during the election as they were happening. In the introduction of the book, the author says that his very intention was to document events as they happened and not to go back and "revise" anything.
My own take on this book is that Mr. Overstreet did a very good job of tracking the media (TV, Internet and written word) on a day-by-day basis and made me aware of things I was missing - mainly that people who call themselves reporters should report truth, not make personal judgments. No wonder universities are contacting Mr. Overstreet and wanting to use "71 Days" as a textbook in their journalism classes. The book is a treasurable piece of history.
But Revisionist? Appears you didn't read the book!

JUST GET IT AND READ IT ! Apr 03, 2010

The book is so informative and you will learn a ton that will surprise you. The author went above and beyond on his research...don't know how he did it. One of a kind! The book is like reading something live. It really moves. What an education I got. Long book, but very entertaining. Loved it. The media is certainly a mess and this book proves it in more ways than I can explain in a book review.
