3Another good read  Oct 28, 2009
In Black and White: The Media and the Election of President Barack Obama

Also a great read on the media and Obama is In Black and White: The Media and the Election of President Barack Obama, which is available on AMAZON. In Black and White begins at the time of Obama's anouncement in February 2007 and ends on election day. A good overall look at the media.

5A Treasure That Historians Will Use as a Resource For Years to Come  Oct 14, 2009
This is an outstanding read. I was surprised that one reviewer of this book claims that it is "inaccurate" and "revisionist at best." How can hundreds of documented quotations, taken live straight from the mouths of talking heads or taken daily from pages of print during the election be inaccurate? One may disagree with the book's commentary, but commentary is opinion. On the other hand, facts are facts, and by definition cannot be inaccurate.
Revisionist? How can a book written daily in real time be called revisionist? "Revisionist" means to change a historical perspective or to rewrite history. It appears to me that the author was taking down history as it was happening and that the reviewer did not bother to read the book to see that it is, in fact, a daily journal of events during the election as they were happening. In the introduction of the book, the author says that his very intention was to document events as they happened and not to go back and "revise" anything.
My own take on this book is that Mr. Overstreet did a very good job of tracking the media (TV, Internet and written word) on a day-by-day basis and made me aware of things I was missing - mainly that people who call themselves reporters should report truth, not make personal judgments. No wonder universities are contacting Mr. Overstreet and wanting to use "71 Days" as a textbook in their journalism classes. The book is a treasurable piece of history.
But Revisionist? Appears you didn't read the book!

1Revisionist at best  Sep 23, 2009
The argument that the media was anything but gentle with Sen. Obama is a tough one to make, and [71 Days] is unable to make it. The vision of the campaign in this book is not the vision that anyone who lived through the campaign will recognize. As a former Obama staffer, and still a strong supporter, I am not writing this as a smear against Obama. Rather, it is important to realize that this literary work is NOT accurate and should not be treated as such. I wish I could rank it lower than one star.

5A courageous and unique perspective!  Jun 02, 2009
71 days is an amazing read. This book is an enlightening daily synopsis of the media coverage of all that occurred during the 71 days leading up to the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. The book reads like a diary, while providing concrete evidence to support the author's assertion that there was indeed a "media assault on Obama" during the General Election. A stimulating and relevant book that will one day give historians a unique view of the politics of this finite period in American history and the shortcomings of the media that covered it.

1You bet!  May 31, 2009
Media assault? Right! Let's see, the NY Times falls all over themselves praising Obama. Newsweek is practically an Obama campaign publication. Time magazine just published their 18th fawning cover story about the Obamas. Wow, what an assault! I don't see how our great President can withstand all these attacks.
