99 Notes

Kate McLaren is recuperating from a terrible accident. A crushed larynx has left her unable to speak and, desperate to communicate, she turns to email, expecting to trade light-hearted messages with friends and family. What she initially perceives as a harmless exchange of ideas turns into a life-changing process. In 99 Notes, author Devon Landry explores the power of communication and how one woman’s reluctance to explore her past and recognize how events―and her reactions to them―have resulted in emotional isolation and a loss of faith. Through these electronic messages Kate is guided into her heart, finding truths about her painful past and revelations about her aversion to intimacy. The author’s poignant depiction of emotional isolation leads us toward introspection and has created a character so likable that we root for her recovery, both physical and emotional, and share her joy as she begins to discover herself. This is a story of hope, redemption, and a reawakening of faith.

5Makes you think...  Dec 03, 2009
By Dennis M. Walsh
Very interesting read, and the first of it's kind really tackle communication in the modern time! How much do we communicate now through email, but imagine it being your only venue?!?!? It truly made me think about what and how I say via the internet!! Slowly, you see this woman open up and heal, not only her heart but her soul! We've all faced tragedy, but it's how we deal with it that matters...she shows another venue for confronting and dealing with fear! It's a must read!!

5Intriguing and thought provoking book...  Oct 21, 2009

Very interesting story. It is a fast read, as it's arranged as series of emails between the heroine and various people in her life. It manages to hit on a lot theories on the meaning of fate and the sometimes random nature of life. There is also a strong line of faith running through the story that manages to be touching without being overly religious (if that makes any sense).

More than anything, the book serves as a reminder that life is short and you have to take your chances when they come your way.
