A Basket of Pears for General Washington: A Child's Account of the Neshaminy Camp

Three children visit General George Washington and his army at the Neshaminy Encampment, held in Warwick, Pennsylvania in August of 1777. Part of the story is based on facts, and part on legends. General George Washington and his staff moved into the home of the widow Catherine Moland. For 13 days, this large and well furnished home was General Washington’s headquarters. Many distinguished officers visited during this period, among them, Generals Lafayette, Pulaski, Greene, Knox, Wayne, Muhlenberg, and junior officers Hamilton, Monroe, Marshall, Lee and Laurens. This may also have been the first raising of the Betsey Ross flag.
