2Coates Tries But Fails  Oct 09, 2008
By Michael Mandaville "Author: Citizen Soldier Handbook:101 Ways For Every American To Fight Terrorism"
Coates offers ideas on altering the Bill of Rights. His work is long on provocation but short on logical and realistic thought. The Bill of Rights dealt with principles and not popular trends. The 2nd Amendment is relevant to stop criminals - stopping a million attacks a year. His ideas in regard to guaranteed employment are pure socialist claptrap - without acountability i.e., the possibility of termination - some employees would sit on the gravy train. The same with socialized medicine - though I agree with the need for transparency and reform - but the Cuban model is Michael Moore hype. His suggestion about abolishing the Electoral College means that he doesn't even understand its purpose. With only a popular vote, politicians would only campaign and give pork to the most populous states, ignoring less populated states. Why wouldn't they secede in such reduced circumstances? The Electoral College gives equal weight to states - like the Senate arrangement of two per state. I agree with enforcement of privacy in the digital age but this is too little and too uninspired to spend your hard earned dollars on.

5A Master of Stimulating Discussion  Apr 21, 2008
By Gary D. Marx "Gary Marx"
Joe Coates is a master at stimulating discussion about important issues. Just as our nation's founders did so brilliantly, he provokes us to deliberate, to unfreeze our thinking, and to consider both past experiences and future possibilities. Gary Marx
