Realistic and thought provoking Feb 02, 2006 Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (1/06)
I wasn't a fan of romance novels but I must say, after reading this book, I have a different outlook. Gerri Smith's first novel, "A Challenge of Love" creates a safe backdrop for those of us that don't normally delve into romance novels. My previous thoughts of romance novels as being full of smut and sex. Was I surprised and take all my thoughts back!
"A Challenge of Love" is a wonderfully inspirational story of challenges that could be overcome and faith restored. Smith has a way of setting up the plot that the reader can't help but take on a character that they most resonate with. The story, although fiction, could very easily be realistic although may take you on a thought provoking ride.
For me, the compelling aspects of the book were the more practical, close look at our own lives that reveal the fears that keep us trapped in the mundane and keep us from risking to fall in love. Due to circumstances love is lost and replaced with cold logic and stark reality, a reality that jars one to awaken to the fact we loose trust and passion, not only for others, but mainly for ourselves.
Smith's book is excellent for anyone that wants to re-discover the passion and romance that seems to be lost.
