5An excellent guide to the wide world of fruits!  Apr 14, 2007
By Melody Pennington
I have received the Consumers Guide on World Fruits and find it a very interesting reference guide for the many new fruits that are becoming available in the markets now. I didn't know there were so many different kinds of fruits! By using this guide I am able to find information on how to judge the ripeness of the various fruits I purchase. A lot of people I know seem to have this same problem, especially with honeydews and watermelons. This book also answers questions I have about the different variety of fruits, particularly oranges, tangelos and mandarins as to whether they have seeds and how sweet they are. This also applies to the various grapes, plums, peaches and avocadoes in the guide. By checking in this guide about them I know what to expect and feel more inclined to buy some of the more unfamiliar types. I find the trivia section interesting and stimulating for the "fun and knowledge." There is also an excellent section toward the back of the book on how to take care of the fruits and vegetables you buy. Also the nutrition chart is extremely informative since we are all more concerned with a healthy diet. "All in all," I feel it is a first-rate reference book and a necessity in today's markets.
