A Different Road

In the twenty-first century, where political correctness and equal opportunity are of the utmost importance, there is still an overwhelming stigma associated with 'brain disease' and 'mental illness.' Author and mother of a child with multiple brain diseases, Lauren Haynes shares the story of her family's lifelong struggle to cope with her child's diagnoses in a world that has been less than understanding and accepting.

5Unbelievable  Jan 08, 2006
By Sarah Dye "Sarah"
I read this book with much interest and appreciation for this lady who was able to voice for me and so many others the frustrations in getting help and understanding for our mentally handicapped individuals. Thousands of parents and siblings will identify with her and the struggles of everyday living. We all owe her a debt of gratitude. I wish it could be a "must read" book on everybody's list.

5Encouragement  Jul 19, 2007
By Jack E. Gritton "Mary Bennett"
The author and her family indeed have traveled a different road in their attempt and struggle to have their brain diseased son correctly diagonised and treated. The reader is also made aware of society's failure to extend compassion and understanding to those with this serious condition. The book will be a source of help and encouragement to those who find themselves in like situations and cause those who are normal to evaluate their understanding and conduct toward those with mental illnesses.

5A very touching and useful book  Feb 13, 2006
By Anne M. Toy "Anne Marie"
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I have been using Mrs. Haynes' book in my practice. I recommend it to clients both for use in understanding what it is like to live with a "brain disease" and for the comfort of knowing that they are not the only people in the world going though such an experience. Mrs. Haynes is a wonderful woman to put herself and her experiece out there for others benefit.

5Moving, heartbreaking and heartwarming  Jan 02, 2006

An Eye Opening look into the lives of our friends, co-workers, relatives and strangers that struggle daily with brain disease and the prejudice and ignorance they must encounter. You won't be able to put the book down once you start. It's changed my outlook on this incredible journey that remarkable families such as this one has had.
