A Distant Trumpet

The Bible is not just a record of God's work in the past. It also shows us the work that God is doing in our own time and our own lives. This is the message of hope in the sermons of Hugh Eichelberger, who has preached at Presbyterian churches throughout the Southeast. The sermons in this collection, arranged according to the Christian Year, were preached at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church in Charleston, South Carolina, where Dr. Eichelberger was senior pastor from 1991 to 1996.

"With both skill and passion, Hugh Eichelberger consistently preached sermons of consequence. He joined our human stories with the Biblical story, enabling us to listen for God's word in all the places where we live." Jon Regen, Presbyterian Pastor Emeritus

"Dr. Eichelberger's familiarity with the Scriptures is profound and acute. He has wrestled with the angel, as did Jacob. He is now Elijah on top of the mountain. And he is still John the Baptist, crying in the wilderness and preparing the way for the Lord." Father Francis Kline, O.C. S. O., Abbot of Mepkin
