excellent book about a much manipulated piece of history Oct 11, 2004
By Jai Natarajan A very fast and fun read about the first military black eye given to the East India company and the controversial Black Hole of Calcutta incident. Well written and fast paced, with enough drama, action and strong willed women to keep period fiction fans happy.
I was particularly fascinated by the mercurial character of the little known Siraj ud Daulah, which reminded me how poorly history is taught in India. Hope for a sequel on him !

Fun and educational Jun 22, 2007
By Melanie Gurunathan I really enjoyed "A Flight of Green Parrots" for it was both educational and entertaining. I especially enjoyed the character development. I found that I was unable to put it down until it was finished. I also enjoyed the historic references. I hope to see more work from Dipak Basu.

a gripping, entertaining read Jan 09, 2005
By entertained reader An easy, gripping read which provides a believable flavor of India in colonial times. Has many of the ingredients which grabs the reader's attention - adventure, drama, history and romance, all of which are in poetic prose. Almost sets the reader up for a sequel.

Absorbing Dec 13, 2004
By George T. Remsberg One of life's true joys is to find a really good book and be compelled to read it into the wee small hours and beyond. A Flight of Green Parrots grabbed me in chapter two and did not let me go until I reluctantly finished reading the last page. The characters remain in my mind. Poetic prose, and a gripping (and largely true)story.

A Flight of Green Parrots Nov 01, 2004

"A flight of Green Parrots" is an mazing piece of literature that uncovers the details from histroy that I am sure very few know about. The attention to details is mazing in the book and one almost feels in the middle of the avenues and lanes of the Ft. Williams.
The scene toward the end was so intense, and felt so real that I felt myself gasping for air while reading how the prisoners of Ft. Willimas were being stuffed in to the small room mercilessly......
A book of passion and determination with history woven in.....
