Corrupt politicians, dirty elections with an unexpected twist Sep 14, 2009 Amazon often asks for feedback but usually so many people get there before I do, what's left to say. But I finished this book just in time to hear the news of Florida's governor appointing his best sidekick, George LeMieux to fill the Senate seat he the governor hopes to claim next term. "A Margin of Error" anyone? I'm from Florida and this book is scary real to me. Is George LeMieux really Neal Charles? Or is Neal Charles really George LeMieux? Then who is Cady Palmer and did the governor really stack the deck? I know this is fiction, but so much of it really hits the mark a lot too close for comfort. Thriller.. Jun 17, 2009 Lani Massey Brown offers readers a thriller. The setting is present day Florida. Cady Palmer is the Deputy Supervisor of Elections. A coworker commits voter fraud. As though the stress level isn't high enough, the governor sends someone to "watch" everything that happens on Election Day.
A Margin of Error: Ballots of Straw is an edge of your seat thriller. The tension slowly builds to a point of no return. The next time you close the curtain on the voting booth, you push the buttons, will your vote go to the candidate of your choice? Lani Massey Brown is a talented author. A Margin of Error seemed a bit heavy in a few spots but all in all it is a good read.

An exciting read Jun 08, 2009 Politics is a tough career, with more knives in backs than a backstabbing convention. "A Margin of Error: Ballots of Straw" is a political thriller following Cady Palmer as she attempts to stand up for what she believes in the face of a corrupt governor and his deep reaching network. Not knowing who to trust, Cady submerges herself in the webs of deceit where her next mistake may be her last. "A Margin of Error" is an exciting read.

Voting fraud suspense thriller Apr 16, 2009 Reviewed by Jeneke Lesak for RebeccasReads (4/09)
"A Margin of Error: Ballots of Straw" by Lani Massey Brown is a modern day suspense thriller about a voting fraud set in Florida. Cady, the Deputy Supervisor of Elections, is focused on pulling off a trouble-free election. She is hardworking and honest; she puts her work ethic above anything else. But it doesn't make things easy when a crazed ex-coworker wreaks havoc by sneaking into the media room posing as a reporter, and then breaks into the system causing major problems with the voting machines, thereby skewing results. Nor is it helpful for the governor's spy to have free roam of the office during Election Day, which makes for an interesting case of sexual tension between the two. To make matters worse, Cady's right-hand woman is kidnapped. Will Cady break under the pressure or will she hold strong until the end?
The tension in this book is virtually suffocating. Being stuck in the office building for half of the book with troubles mounting at every turn, I needed to get out and get some air! The subject matter is current, exposing very real issues associated with voting machine controversy wrapped up in a great nail-biting suspense, right up to the unexpected ending. Those who are partial to political suspense will appreciate Brown's novel.
I found the storyline of "A Margin of Error" to be appealing, especially having worked at the polls myself. I will have to say that the writing style is heavy: heavy with tension, heavy with minute detail of every possible aspect of the voting process, and heavy, heavy, heavy with dialogue. All that talking is somewhat unnecessary, and could be toned down a bit for a smoother read. And why the censorship of the f-word when every other expletive is allowed, not to mention some very racy material?
"A Margin of Error" is certainly worth taking a look at. Next time you are at the voting machine, it will make you wonder, "Does this really count...?" Scary stuff!

Chilling and thrilling and lovely Apr 02, 2009 Sometimes reality and fiction collide in such a way as to make us believe. This is one of those times and these characters haunt me. The lovely, flirty Izzy and her more seasoned boss Cady Palmer are in over their heads in life, love, and a wave of scary events. The backdrop of a hacked election draws a chilling parallel to current events, today, yesterday, and tommorrow. Is the story more chilling or the possibility that it could be true? But I want to know more. I want to know about what happens with Izzy after and if Cady and Neal make it.
