A Fantastic Book! Mar 03, 2009
A Vagabonds Journey is a true treasure. I have really enjoyed reading it.
Even though there were hardships in this story, I wish I could have been there, right alongside Erling. In some ways, this book made me think of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens; I felt the same love for both David and Erling after reading each book.
I think that this book was written about a very relevant time, because the times of the Great Depression are very similar to the times that we face today. Something that also intrigued me was the fact that the story was based on the childhood of a real person.
I highly recommend this book!
Touching and beautifully crafted Apr 27, 2010
By Ginger R. Henderson I read this book a couple of years ago and just now noticed that it's offered for sale on Amazon. It is a heartbreakingly beautiful tale, one of those books that hits you so hard you have to put it down for a few moments to breathe. Even now, years after reading it, there are many scenes that I can still bring to mind.
A truly touching work that will speak to your soul.
Life of Ernie Mar 30, 2009

I stumbled on this book, in my search for tales about Danes immigrating to North America. In A Vagabonds Journey I did find a captivating story about Erling Madsen's chaotic childhood.
But most of all I found a book by a writer who understands to paint pictures that makes you understand. When reading Melanie Eve Miller's book I understand (I think) situations, like how young Ernie must have felt when he was standing there in the corner of the kitchen, looking at his feet and listening to his father and aunt, about to take Ernie away from his happy life living with his aunt.
My warmest recommendations for this book.
