I purchased this book for my 19 year old son for his birthday as he loves vampire stories. Well he was busy and the book was sitting there just staring at me so I decided to read the 1st chapter or 2 before I got bored and laid it down. Well, let's just say that didn't happen. Except for going to a block party for the 4th, I did nothing but read this book. I was engrossed by the world that the author created. She very nicely tied in some historical or mythological beings (Depending on how you look at them) without sidetracking the main storyline. She has setup a universe, intentionally or not, where she could write many books both set in the past and in the future of this one. The characters she created are so unique from one another that you want the author to write another book to give the story of each one their own due.
The main story is about a human who comes to live with a vampire tribe after vampires have taken over the world and what her experiences with them are.
The most exciting thing about this book was that each time you think the story is going in one direction it changes to another. Not in an over done 'Let's throw in a twist for the sake of having a twist way', but in away that doesn't dramatically change events, but in away that says 'I thought the story was going this way, but this works better'.
In the end I really enjoyed, Wishakriest, Snake, Taridian and Derra among others and I sincerely hope the author gives each of these characters their own book or 2. I also cannot wait to see what becomes of the main character, Wynter. Please write another Ms Taylor.
