Above The Glamour

Composed and dramatic in all the right ways, Above the Glamour by author and veteran flight attendant Jean Keiser found her “road less traveled” in the sky. Her story is intense, funny, and filled with deep wells of emotion. As a flight attendant with a major airline for over thirty years, she has been hijacked, caught in hotel fires, and lived to tell about a few too many close calls. Consider this a crash course in Murphy’s Law and flight attendant school. With chapter titles like “Combustible Hotels” and “Paco Goes Haywire,” she offers as much action as she does mayhem. The fact is that flying the friendly skies is a calling that should not be answered by the meek. She speaks of losing friends and coworkers before, on, and after 9/11—relating what can go wrong and what inevitably does. For those born to fly and for those whose feet are firmly planted on the ground, Jean’s resounding message shares the grit and joy of following one’s passion and living above the glamour.

5A roller coaster experience  Jun 14, 2009
I have never worked in the Airline industry and I haven't really flown all that much either. Reading this book made me realize what a hard job it is to be a Flight Attendant. Parts of the book made me laugh, scared me, and made me cry. Any book that can bring out that many emotions is a good read.

5An Amazing Book by an Amazing Woman!  Dec 12, 2008
Little did I know when I first met Jean, Jose and the crew of AA1291 on 11/20/00 what that day would bring us. That horrible day we will never forget. I learned a bit of Jean's history then but it is so amazing to read it all in this amazing book. Thank you Jean for writing it & sharing your career with us. For me it was very healing and inspiring. Even for "non-airline" people this book is a page turner. I can imagine that you have many more stories to tell and thank you again for letting us share part of your amazing career.
Definitely a must read!
Thank you!
Kimberly

5From the Heart, touching, encouraging and helpful!  Aug 18, 2008
Although, I am an AA JFK International Purser, I never met Jean; however her book touch every single cell of my body from the time she realized she wanted to be a Cabin Crew to the reality of our job! Although, my experiences are differently they are very similar in many instances. I laugh, cry, got a drink, and move on as Jane did. Jane, I hope to meet you some day in person ... and if I did I am sorry I'm really bad with names, as I remember faces. Your book has helped me to deal with a lot of issues specially 9/11, Jose's Death & 587 the fact at that time I was the "MOD On-Call" in those three incidents at HDQ. Thank you for your courage, devotion, power, love and honesty! I'm so happy I read your book and I will be making sure that your thoughts, comments and anecdotes are read by our peers! Sincerely, L. Cardozo, Kew Gardens, NY AA Purser Class 98-31

5Great Reading  Jul 23, 2008
Thanks for an accurate and moving depiction of the life as a flight attendant. Your experiences were terrorizing, hilarious and touching. Your personality as a warm loving wife, mother and friend was evident in all of your events. Everyone should read this book to understand the dynamics that make a flight attendant. Your sense of humor, strength, intelligence and courage shine throughout the book. It is an honor to be your friend.

5Above the Glamour  Jul 19, 2008
For anyone wanting a glimpse into the livelihood of a flight attendant, Jean has thoughtfully recaptured her life experiences in a delightful and engaging read. Her stories had me laughing, in tears and relating to a world that is all too familiar with flight attendants in the airline industry. "Above the Glamour" was very entertaining and a pleasure. Jean's personality and wit came right through. Reading her book was as enjoyable as being with Jean herself.
