I've read this book twice! Sep 18, 2008
By Steven R. Sharp I've read this book twice! I have been a student of self-development and self-improvement for quite a long time and I've had the opportunity to read many books on the subject. This book ranks among the best! I really like Mark's down-to-earth style and his practical, real-life examples and exercises. This book is a must-have!
A Formula for Achieving Your Dreams Aug 24, 2009
By Terry W. Sprouse
"Investor and Author"
This book is exceptional on many different levels.
The author finds nuggets of truth in everyday events that most of us might completely overlook. For example, Mr. Maxon describes returning with his children from the park after playing "freeze" tag, and having to cross a busy intersection. He spots a pick-up truck barreling down the street and tells his son, "Don't step in the street." But, his son steps in the street anyway, and is barely pulled back to safety in time by his father.
As the author analyses what happened afterwards, he perceptively realizes that the visual message of his message (stepping in the street) conflicted with his intent to have his children remain safely on the sidewalk. His son's body followed his mind as he visually interpreted the message. This story drives home the point that we think in pictures, and often we introduce our ideas or instructions to others with language that creates the opposite pictorial image.
In all honesty, I bought this book with no intention of working though the exercises at the end of each chapter. I generally prefer just to read a book, and highlight the parts I like best. But, in this case, the exercises were so well presented and seemed so useful, I did all the exercises as I went along. And, I'm glad I did. It made me examine aspects of my life I had previously not examined, and my active participation has imprinted these new ways of thinking on my mind.
Mr. Maxon's illustrations not only show how to achieve financial and personal goals, but also at the same time keeping the welfare of others in mind. The author encourages you to give away that which you want to receive. He acknowledges that companies that he has worked with hold him in high value because he has, as he states, "my desire to serve others before myself." To me, only someone who lives his life like that is truly qualified to write about achieving excellence. There can be no true excellence if the component of helping others is not a part of it.
Instead of following their dreams, many people fill their lives with spiritual non-necessities, as the author points out. Life gives us what we demand of it, so why not invest in yourself instead of things that have no lasting value? We can turn to spiritual guidance for the power to fulfill our dreams, and we soon realize that nothing in life happens by accident. When you take that approach to life, you start to see miracles in your every day experiences.
Mr. Maxon's writing style is engaging. Many times I caught myself saying, "Wow, I really like the way that he said that." As a writer myself, I appreciate it when an author takes time to craft a book so that each sentence is well written and each word has meaning. This is just such a book.
The author communicates that he believes in us and he appeals to our highest selves. People who excel in life and truly believe in themselves, like Mr. Maxon, have that heartening ability to believe in everyone else that they come into contact with, and pass along their strength to us and give us the tools to reach our dreams.

Required Reading Nov 13, 2009
By Derek This book is a blueprint for improving your life. If schools really want to prepare students for life then this book needs to be required reading. I wish I had read this book many years ago. If you're looking to improve life then I highly recommend Mark Maxon's book.

More than just a book! Nov 09, 2009
By Glen Borst Mr. Maxon has concisely compiled the formula to help us develop the strengths that we unknowingly already possess. Having just completed the book, I feel like I have gained Mr. Maxon as my personal life coach, and now realize that I have untold wealth and knowledge placed at my feet...I just need to take the time to bend down and gather it up!
