Shows potential Mar 07, 2010
By George Dixon The second half of Rod J. Mustanski's novel, Adam's Way, is not bad, excepting the hokey Eden analog on the last few pages. Especially noteworthy are three heroic flashbacks during Adam's semi-conscious, diabetic coma-induced journey to an intergalactic observation post where he and heroine Christie are prepared for a test of their capability to save humanity from disaster. The ensuing battle with corporate greed, personified by the evil CEO of a corrupt coal-mining firm includes a climax featuring Beelzebub himself.
Not so much can be said for the first part of the book, part one of a trilogy by the self-published author. Widower Adam gives Christie a lift after her friend's car breaks down on the road to Key West. In practically no time they fall in love, finally consumating their relationship after interminable pages of adolescent sex fantasy. (In an early scene, despite "throbbing manhood", etc., they fall asleep caressing each other on a hotel couch, apparently never having completed the adventure.)
The revelation that Christie is actually the daughter of an industrial scion is hard to swallow given her earlier hitch-hiking episode after a girlfriend's dilapidated car breaks down. And the plethora of natural disasters, including California's collapse into the sea, is gratuitous and adds little to the plot line; neither do the frequent descriptions of diabetic Adam's blood-sugar tests and insulin injections. Adam's performance of "You're Just too Good to Be True" at the end of a hotel diving board, with the other guests joining in the chorus, leaves the reader shaking his head, wondering how can he top this?
Mustanski desperately needs an editor. Frequent inexplicable shifts from past to present tense are distracting, as are many misspellings. It's "pin-striped", not "pen-stripped." "Vial" is a noun meaning a small container; "vile" is an adjective meaning despicable.
Despite all that, the denoument is quite entertaining and manages to avoid many of the problems of the exposition.
Guess I'll have to read volume 2.

Quite an entertaining level of "Believable Fantasy" Jun 06, 2008
By Stan "The Man" This book is one of many I have recently read and I have found it to be the most entertaining. It had it all--good story with romance, action, suspense, and a twist of science fiction which was the ignition switch which took me fast forward as though I was with Adam and Christy on their mission to save mankind. Rod J. hooked me with his ability to make the story so real--I could not stop reading it until I finished the book. A super effort by a new author.
The story was truly creative and presented a different approach on how we all believe man has been created and what supreme being controls his destiny.
This is a great book to read if you like romance, action, suspense and total suprises! I am recommending it as a must read to all of my family and friends.

This author had a way of making you believe that you were with Adam and Christy all the way through there travels and back. The book also gives a insight to some of the deadliest diseases and what can happen to a family along the way.
Loved the way that the author made you see what the characters looked like the discription of what they looked and acted like. They really popped out when you read. You can tell that there is alot of love in the family's.
The book also takes place when there is alot that is happening in the world today and it makes you think about how you live your life. Give the author a BIG Thumbs up for doing his home work and making you live this. Great book and have recommended it to all my friends and reletives.

This book has a variety of interesting topics from fascinating characters to natural disasters to science fiction. When one starts reading, the story line flows naturally so that it's difficult to put the book aside. No matter what your interests happen to be, there is something for just about everyone. I strongly recommend this for an enjoyable reading experience.
