Down Home Country to Uptown Bistro Cooking For the Foodie or Not Sep 03, 2009
By JB Wilson
"JB Designs Northwest"
The idea of using farm-fresh fruits and veggies in your cooking is the focus of this cookbook and reference. I have both previous editions of Sarah's cookbook and use them often to search out a recipe from her collection that ranges from down home farmhouse cooking to more uptown bistro specialties such as a Grilled Portobello Salad and Pumpkin Sage Pasta. My personal favorites are Black Beans with Butternut Squash and Potato Corn Chowder. Her Spinach Quiche and Baked Gruyère Potatoes are always a hit at family gatherings. And don't forget the Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce or Pumpkin Flan for dessert. Some of her revisions of traditional recipes include Sadie's Oven Mac & Cheese and Not Your Mama's Waldorf Salad. There are simply too many great recipes to rave about in this review, but you will thoroughly enjoy working your way through them. And as Sarah would say, "Eat Your Veggies!"

I like food and this book is about food! Sep 02, 2009
By Echo I'm not a cook. In fact, I'm almost forbidden from cooking in my house. I am, however, an expert in eating. My wife has used many of the recipes from this book, all resulting in my tummy being very happy. :o)
The variations in dishes and wonderful flavors have given us many happy meals and treats. Plus, while I haven't cooked from this book (again, my wife does the cooking), I have thumbed through it looking for suggestions for meals, and the physical quality of this book is very high. I would expect this type of book to sell for more than $14.99.
Buy this book and enjoy many wonderful meals and make your tummy as happy as mine!

Excellent recipes Sep 01, 2009
By Jennifer Babb It's difficult to find recipes which use ingredients that ripen simultaneously in the same garden. So often cookbook authors expect you to buy two items from your local farmer's market and then stop by the grocery store for the rest of their recipe's ingredients list. Not Sarah. You can cook most of her recipes with just pantry staples and what's in your CSA bag.

Great book!!! We have also enjoyed recipes from the previous editions--Sarah really knows how to combine good old fashioned farm meals with pleasing to the eye presentation making it a "farm chic" cooking classic.
