5Excellent for the beginner!  Aug 26, 2008
Hello all. I have been trying to master the subject of logic for years now. Time and time again I ran into the same problem. The authors of many logic textbooks tried to cover far too much material without explaining the rudiments of the subject first. Instead of confusing the beginner with advanced topics like symbolical logic, truth tables, proofs, Mills methods, etc. the author of this fine book starts at the very beginning of this subject with his description of the three acts of the intellect and how the science of logic is intended to direct them. This a very important topic which is frequently ignored by mainstream logic texts. I am glad that the author has recognized this problem and has written an easy to read manual designed to give the reader a solid foundation not only in the basics of Aristotelian logic but also an understanding of how they are tied to the essential functions of the human mind. Those wanting to learn this vast subject would be advised to start here and then proceed to the more advanced texts once you have mastered it's contents. It will save you a lot of time and frustration!
