Compelling True Story May 06, 2009
By Book Critic An Introduction to War is a compelling true story following the real events and emotions of John, a Dustoff Medic. Through his eyes, readers follow him into the depths of the Vietnam war where his mission to "strive to save lives" leads him to rethink human nature as we know it. An Introduction to War delves into the horrors of war, the strong bonds of friendship, and the difficult transition from the battleground back to the United States. Painted with captivating and moving war images, An Introduction to War explores all realms of war and the emotional toll it takes on a human being. Exploring issues such as death, infidelity, and the stigmas of war, this intriguing and heartfelt story challenges what we take for granted. Working to help others survive, John himself stares death in the face, changing his life forever. Upon returning from Vietnam, John becomes a leader for returning vets, and sets out to rediscover himself post-Vietnam. With an underlying message of hope, John's story is an inspiring and motivational story for everyone--offering insight and understanding to a society still caught up in the trauma of war.

A Timely Book for our Time Jan 25, 2009

What first reads like a soldier's account of the Viet Nam war, becomes a step in the larger journey of a very brave man. Faced with a nearly neglected childhood and a difficult high school transit, the protagonist enlists in the US Army during the Viet Nam war to become a "dustoff" medic. What happens during the war, the characters that he encounters, and the horrific randomness of those events, including his injury, change him, until he encounters the beginning of the rest of his life stateside where his questions and explorations lead to a discovery of deeper truths that all of us as humans must face.
Filled with many accurate historical accounts, this heartfelt, gentle story should be required reading for every American (and service person) as we begin to contemplate these past eight years of our history (or more) and as we begin to understand how all of us must search to find our place in the world.

An Introduction to War: The Journey of a Medic's Heart Apr 04, 2009
By Ed P A real life account of a True American Hero-A Dustoff Medic in Vietnam.
Struggling with the life that was handed him and where that struggle has taken him. Always pushing himself to the next level and always looking for that inner peace.
A friend comes home battered and torn but with a stronger will than ever!
Instead of curling up into a ball, John spread his wings.
An Inspiring read.

"4real"
A no-nonsense prose account of a young man finding his way through life in the 60's and 70's with a horrific combat experience at its center. The details involved in the story will take you back to the "Big Green" if you are a veteran. If you are not, it should give you a stomach-churning experience as you turn the pages wondering how John or any other young American managed to act so nobly during and after the war. A terrific read.
