And He Chose Them

Go Go boys, Trannies and DJ's Oh My! From Queue Jumping to After Hours Parties to the etiquette of the VIP bathrooms. This witty and humorous satire is an 'Insiders/Outsiders' account of a micro society (Manhattan's Gay Nightlife Scene) that has rigid rules of etiquette worthy of an Edith Wharton novel. At the center of the story are 'Go Go boy' Gary Archer and 'nobody' Jonathan. Gary seems destined to continue to be one of the 'Nightlife Crowd' despite his own recognition of the scenes dangerous and vapid absurdity. One night, a stranger named Jonathan appears from out of nowhere and offers Gary an alternative. As Gary becomes friends with 'nobody' Jonathan, other members of the scene watch with suspicion and disdain. Gary uses his clout to guide Jonathan through the delicate waters of after hours parties, queue jumping and the etiquette of the VIP bathrooms. Soon, Gary is given a choice, continue his relationship with the outsider or stay within the fold. With kaleidoscopic 'points of view' the story told by Go Go Boys, Nightclub Promoters, Escorts, Drug Dealers, Cross Dressers and Gossip columnists tells a tale of relationships formed and destroyed out of flagrant self interest, where late night networking and naked opportunism are the order of the day and ultimately about a groups insatiable desire for more and more attention.

5Great read  Aug 23, 2006
By F. May
As a straight man, I feel this book is not only entertaining, but also a great insight into the "gay world" of New York City. It is a well written, witty, and creative work well worth reading. It almost made me want to be gay!

4Page-Turner!  Aug 11, 2006

This searing satire of the New York Club scene is very funny with rapid fire writing that makes up each kaleidescopic chapter, a page turning literary mock-umentary/love story/guide to the nightlife and much more. A witty fun read!

1Why So Serious?  Mar 27, 2012
By Justin Luke "JustinLukeNYC"
Ironic that a book that slams the gay nightlife world for its "sexuality and shallowness" would leverage a gorgeous photo of a man-butt on the cover in hopes of selling more copies (spoiler alert: rated 3 millionth in sales, it doesn't seem to have worked).

Can you judge a book by its cover? Well, this book certainly wants to judge you by yours.

Mr. Casso's book is the stereotypical tripe you'd hear coming out of the mouth of any hater who would prefer to spend his evenings at home with the DVR, a six-pack of Dr. Pibb, and a bucket full of self-loathing.

Lighten up, Mr. Casso! There's much fun to be had out there in gay nightlife land. Not everyone is a bitter, jaded, hateful, shallow queen. It seems as though you are definitely one of them, however.

Reading this book is like sitting opposite someone with perpetually rolled eyes and a slack jaw. Fun date!

Also: it's hard to believe this mean-spirited, catty trash was published by an actual publishing house.

Hold on... it wasn't! Booksurge is that place that CHARGES you to publish, right?

Well, hopefully they were cheap back in 2006.

Also: Why add your own book to your Amazon Wishlist as one of your five favorite gay books? Did Booksurge not give you a few free copies with your paid package?

5Speaking as a former New York Go Go boy myself  Jul 18, 2006
By William Morel "GoGoBoyBEW"
When I saw the cover I knew this book was about the Go Go boy part of the Gay Manhattan Nightlife scene and to put it mildly this novel is dead on accurate! And funny as hell! I could recognize so many of the "types" in this book that if I didn't know better I would have thought the novel was about me! But of course it is not but nonetheless, it is a great read that I highly recommend. And for those of you that live outside of New York City (esp Manhattan) then this will show you what you are missing!
