A wonderful web of a story Mar 01, 2006
By Jesse Johnson
"Lover of books"
I was given this book on my birthday and read it in four days, a magical story of love, survival, healing and deeper understandings of one's life's challenges. Clara, the story's main charactor, lives through so many horrors, yet, as she is reflecting from her "Crone" years, she has found peace within. This is a stirring and beautiful read...I recommend it highly.

lifelong reader Nov 30, 2010
By Sarah Initially I found this almost too painful to read, but turning the pages opened up a story of great hope, empathy, wisdom and optimism. The fact that the author's journey through familial emotional and physical abuse brings her to a place of forgiveness and personal healing, is a testament to her compassionate nature and inner strength.
Her descriptions of the people and places in her book are quite vivid, and I see the whole story as movie material, especially since it takes place during a specific period of time in the Pacific Northwest.
A Storyteller's Life Apr 05, 2011
By Lily Clara became a storyteller in her later life. That was the only way she could review her long difficult journey into adulthood and try to come to grips with the harsh reality that she had endured a childhood of unspeakable cruelty and meanness. Clara was born with a good natured heart and a keen intellect that always pulled her through the trials of life and finally made her whole. The one bright light in her young life was a teacher that opened her mind to the gift of the written word and the promise of an education. Her love of books opened her world up to the study of mythology, spiritual teachings and dreams that gave her life meaning.

By Cheri I found the book exciting, really depicting the 40's as they were and found the book to be spirtual with hope and forgiveness and Clara found peacefulness in her later years. A worthwhile read.
