5Jewel in the Lotus  Dec 17, 2011
By Lesley Ann Crossingham
To imagine the ascension journey into enlightenment, simply visualise a beautiful lotus flower sitting on top of a stagnant pond. It is a beautiful jewel that floats, untouched by the slime and dross of the water. Its roots drift down to the sludge at the bottom of the pond, whilst its petals open, one by one, to the eternal light of its essence. This image is, of course, the vision within the famous mantra, Om mani Padme Om, which means "I am the jewel in the lotus" and is chanted by millions of Bhakti adherents all over the world. It is this image that author, Judith Marie McLean opens her book, Ascension Journey.

The process of ascension, or spiritual liberation, is a hotly debated and often controversial subject, because inevitably, it must be stated that there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution. However insights from the journeys of others can assist us to understand and embrace our own inner process. Author, Judith Marie McLean does exactly that as shares her journey, including the many pitfalls she has fallen into and scrambled her way out of, with bravery and candour. Indeed it takes a very brave and honest author to recount how she felt the first kundalini energy, or spontaneous awakening, and began speaking "in tongues" to a conservative Mormon congregation. The bishop believed she was experiencing megalomania and urged her husband to seek psychiatric help.

Many would crumble under that kind of criticism and hostility, instead the once devout Mormon began her own inner journey of healing and spiritual attainment.

The author describes the initial experiencing being "like having a radio in my head that was running into several stations at once. Which voice did I listen to at what time?" This confusion culminated in her offering "absurd" prophecies such as predicting that California would sink as she became an urgent "Old Testament" style prophet. At the same time, this journey also became what she calls the "most ecstatic experience of my life and also the most devastating." Within a few weeks, both she and her husband left the Mormon Church, were alienated from their families, lost social and religious support and had to deal with what she describes as a "ravaged nervous system" and the subsequent marriage deterioration.

There are several chapters dedicated to the chakra system and the human energy field, most of which refer to other authors, and a chapter dedicated to the purification of thoughts and emotions. There is also an interesting description of the author's experience with what she calls "psychic attack." Whilst she claims not to believe in negative etheric energies, she does concede that her Catholic background's belief in demons and devils, and then the later Mormon belief in untruthful entities, are within her psyche. She had two occasions where she felt something or someone wanted to harm her. She asked Mormon Elders of the church to cast out these influences and this seemed to resolve the situation. More recently, her self assigned spiritual tasks required that she travel to areas of "negativity, black magic and misused psychic work" most notably during a trip to Egypt where she undertook a massive spirit release and removal of old thought-forms. She had similar experiences during the September 11th attacks in New York and in Afghanistan where she was followed by "Taliban entities" in the astral realm. She believes these negative entities still haunt the astral plains.

The author also deals with soul retrieval, earth cleansing, etheric healing, death and enlightenment, offering both traditional viewpoints and her own experiences gleaned from her journey. At last, the book returns to the subject of ascension in the final chapter, and yet tends to go off on various tangents, including dealing with the phenomenon of "walks ins" and ET encounters. During the final pages, she does, however, concede that obstacles to ascension include defence mechanisms, hurtful emotions and restricted mental understanding. Old patterns can keep an individual entrenched in the habit patterns of the material world and considerable work is required to purify consciousness, she states. She also contends that as memories and emotions are released, the DNA changes and a "light-body" is developed allowing ascension to occur. During this period, ailments such as depression, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia may occur. She offers several tools to assist the process, such as sun-gazing and her personal experience with special flower essence remedies.

Judith McLean clearly acknowledges her Catholic and Mormonism background which includes an ingrained desire to "be perfect" as she puts it. Catholicism and esoteric teachings believe there is a need for purification of the personality and soul. Mormonism, Cayce studies and esoteric teachings acknowledge belief and contact with beings in etheric realms. Quantum physics, esoteric studies and New Age philosophies all refer to energy as an active force for both creation and dissolution. Mix these philosophies together and you gain some understanding of her views.

Her current philosophy is that God (the Universe, the One Mind) is like a mountain and she uses the example of viewing this mountain from her window and then working out how to traverse it. For those who share Judith McLean's view that there is a mountain-to-God to climb, that you must cleanse, heal and work on all your issues in order to climb the mountain, then this book will provide you with many insights and campgrounds to ponder as you make your own personal journey.

Of course, there are those who do not see God as a mountain at all, but rather an essence or inner consciousness that simply waits to be unveiled within. It is interesting that the author claims to have studied A Course In Miracles, because there is little to no influence to be seen in her book. From reading her book, it is clear that Judith McLean is very much a product of her early Catholic and Mormon faith, and therefore the need to atone, cleanse and right the wrongs of the world, clearly burn within. There are many gems in this little book and it is certainly a very good overview of the basic philosophies of the new age and current spiritual movements. In the end, the reader must decide if he or she feels the need to walk the mountain, or simply take the helicopter to reach the top.

It is equally clear that Judith McLean is wise in her ways. She writes: "All paths are viable depending on your cultural background, personal history, societal influences and the bias of your upbringing. If we embraced the tolerance for different paths and different perceptions, this would be a world endowed with peace."
Judith McLean has a master's degree in pastoral counselling and was affiliated with the Unity Centre of Christianity. She ordained as a minister of Light of Christ Community Church and later completed a doctoral program in Religious Studies and Sacred Traditions at Stratford University in Canada. She currently works in pastoral counselling, and remote viewing of disaster work and earth grid healing.

5Excellent and Comprehensive Book for Advance Learners in Spirituality and Healing Art  Apr 04, 2011
By Lai Fong Ching "Carlie"
I suggest people who have practised meditation, psychic and healing work for a few years, go and read this book to enhance your knowledge and achieve a more balancing way of your spiritual practice.

Ascension is a hot topic in recent days. Dr. Mclean has done an excellent job in writing this book, in which she selflessly share her experience and her way of healing practice in this book. Though this is not a step-by-step guide on "how to do XXX", but she still insert some brief and useful information on "how to do it". She unveils the mysterious image on doing healing for the rocks in nature, sending earth-bound entities to where they should go, healing the pass-on souls who have gone through emotional trauma and shocks by soul retrieval, purification and releasing to a higher dimension, and scanning different layers of aura etc.

And the most fundamental aim of writing her book is that she introduce many different ways of pursuing soul ascension and life purposes of man. Although she has her own belief and practice, she still respect and embrace without judgment and discrimination to all the ways leading to the truth of the universe and life. This book is knowledge-based, full of solid information which helps us to clarify the reasons, the principles and the faulty thoughts behind all kinds of mysterious phenomena. She also states that some kind of psychic and spiritual practice is somewhat "harmful" and depleting your energy if overdoing them. Such kind of writing style is rarely found in other spiritual books, since 99% of spiritual and psychic books out there just tell you "how to do XXX", stating the positive outcome you expect, and no more. Dr. Mclean brings us back to reality, the problem we would face when we pursue our development in life and spirituality so that we could have a more balanced point of view and way of practice.

Thanks Dr. Mclean for such a great book. I'd prefer giving this book six stars if Amazon.com permits. Look forward to more of your books.

This book is a breath of fresh air. Finally a book that makes sense to me. After my own Kundalini Experience, this book is the first thing that makes sense to me as a spiritual guide! Highly recommended to anyone as a guide or spiritual reference.

5The One To Own  Mar 03, 2010
By Shirley Trostle
If you can only buy one book about Ascension, this is the one. The history of the growth of awareness/spirituality is important background, the possibilities for how to use the gifts that come with growth are exciting, and the personal stories add the color. The first chapter that blew me away was the journey to the standing stones in Carnac, France. When I become clairvoyant and clairaudient, that will be the first trip I shall take.
You may buy other copies of this book to give as gifts, as I have, but your copy will remain on your bookshelf for your personal use.
