Ashes will give you goosebumps! Jul 29, 2008
By Nikki Toni Riveting. Captivating. Suspenseful.
This is the type of material you would expect from a veteran writer, but Claire Turpin has proven to be just as talented and downright freaky as her peers who are known for similar genres.
Ashes to Ashes We All Fall Down tells the story of Ember, an anti-social,computer virus terminator who finds the love of her life in another country. Who said long distance relationships never work out? Upon their introduction, very strange things begin to take place. Visions of death, voices of singing children and dreams of cobblestone roads and raging fires bombard Ember and she finds herself seeking answers to her painful past and uncertain future.
If you're looking for a story that will make your hair stand up on its ends, and send goosebumps up and down your spine, then this is the book for you. I found myself delightfully creeped out and unable to put the book down. That might have been a good thing if I didn't have to go to work the next morning!
READER BEWARE: This book has the potential to pull you in and hold you ransom til the story is over.

Cool and creepy Feb 02, 2008
By Theresa M. Larson The cover should probably tell that this book has creepy aspects, but that isn't all that it is. This is a well-written first novel that draws the reader in immediately. The characters are believable and most of them are people you'd want in your own life. Ms. Turpen has done her research well on the Black Death, and her knowledge shows through. As does her knowledge of Minnesota winters. Buy this book -- you won't regret it.
Fiery excellence May 17, 2008
By M. A. Gerads From the mystical artwork on the cover of Ashes to the haunting flashbacks detailed throughout the book, I was captivated by Clare Turpen's breakthrough novel. This book is mystery, sci fi, romance, technology, history, psychology, and drama all expertly rolled into one compelling piece of writing with just the right balance of each element to form a story that is easily enjoyed by many different types of readers.
Ms. Turpen's writing technique is superb. The way Ms. Turpen weaves the past and present together to create a concrete story line with many twists and turns is flawless and exciting. Also, the amount of research poured into this book is evident throughout. The technological aspects are plentiful enough to lend intrigue to the story line, yet not too overwhelming or unbelievable to discourage people with limited technological prowess. I want a computer like Vicky!
This is an excellent start to what I can only hope will be a long and prosperous career for Ms. Turpen. I can't wait for the next book to come my way!
Fantastic Story Feb 03, 2008
By R. Wandersee I love this book. It's suspenseful, psychological, and fantastically written. Clare Turpen was able to take a mind-boggling story line and make it seem as though it could easily happen to anyone, which is a real achievement in the field of writing. The depth of the characters, the originality of the story, and the vivid imagination of the author all contribute to making this book a Must-Read.
