At The Seat of Power: Goldenfields and the Dominion (Volume 2)

Alec has left Goldenfields after false rumors destroy the joy he has found there. Now he will reside in Oyster Bay, home of the king's court and Ingenairii Hill, where Alec will be trained in mastery of the ingenairii energies. His clean start in Oyster Bay will be challenged by politics and jealousies and jockeying for power as the old order starts to crumble. Even when he tries to keep to himself, Alec will stumble into trouble. The possibilities of healing and warrior power beckon Alec, and his potential is great, if he stays focused. But an old acquaintance will return, and all hope for a peaceful stay in Oyster Bay will end! Only his solace through miraculous healing can carry Alec until the call comes to return to Goldenfields, but will he be able to find peace serving in the court he was banished from? Promises of power, honor and romance tempt Alec as he learns that he has greater potential than he ever realized, if he can follow Aristotle's advice.

5Picks up and Adds to the Story!  Jan 30, 2010
"Seat of Power" made me think that Quyle can really sustain a story! I enjoyed reading "Visions of Power" and meeting the characters, people I cared about, as well as learning something about the nature of the magic and power in the Dominion. With this book, the story has really done several things - it has delved into the details of the power the ingenairii exercise, and it has shown additional layers of the politics and society, and best of all, it has introduced new characters who I rooted for and cared about. As soon as I finished the book, I was ready to go out and buy the next book in the series!

4Even better than the first  Jan 21, 2010
I am really enjoying the discovery of the Ingenairii Series. This book does a perfect job of picking up the story from the end of the first book, Visions of Power, and continuing Alec's chronicle. "At the Seat of Power" is even better than the first book in some ways because it places Alec in more situations, with more social interaction and dialog, than the first book did. And the book provides a good balance of magic, adventure and even some romance as Alec seems to lose Noranda, while meeting Cassie and Bethany. Quyle does a good job writing about the time Alec spends going through the lessons to learn to control the warrior power; it was a good explanation of how 'magic' is learned. This leaves me looking forward to getting my hands on the next book.

5This keeps the first book's story moving  Sep 15, 2009
I enjoy reading books for relaxation without a lot of complex writing; I don't like works from authors who seem to be trying to show us how good they can be. This book is a good book because it is so easy to read; Quyle has picked up the story from "Visions of Power" and carried it forward seamlessly, adding new characters and new plot ideas, but without making it too confusing. I found the portrayal of the characters to be believable, and the use of conversations to move the story forward was much better that many books that rely too much on narrative. Alec and Cassie and Bethany are people I'd enjoy knowing, and I look forward to learning more about them in the next book!

5Another winner from Jeff Quyle  May 12, 2009
Jeffrey Quyle has quickly learned the secret of the successful writer: create a story that is so enjoyable to read that it is a disappointment to finish. Or as they say in Hollywood, "Always leave `em wanting more." This volume has an exciting plot line and excellent characters. It also has a sense of the upbeat that is welcome in a world full of bad news. I am greatly looking forward to the next installment.

5One book, then another, and soon it's a series  May 08, 2009
This book carries on the story of Alec, the orphan healer, and transports him to a new city, Oyster Bay, where he tries to take lessons in ingenairii (magical) powers, as well as deal with jealous personalities, plus he works hard to improve his swordsmanship - all while the politics of the land twist around him. The book touches on many topics, but manages to keep Alec as the central figure, which makes it much easier to read with that continuity. The writing is crisp, with a nice flow - I was able to whip through page after page as I followed the plot through a number of adventures and twists. It is a really good book!
