Aunt Rose's Wedding

Exuberant, engaging and wildly funny, Aunt Rose’s Wedding by Kiki Sembos translates Greek tradition to an unsuspecting American populace. The fact is that being an unmarried Greek woman in the 1940s could be a harrowing catwalk between arranged courtships and family ire. For better or worse, the old Greek ways prompt a certain approach to looking at the world that is not what one would call forward-thinking. In this novel, the action and laughs surrounds the search for a suitable husband for starry-eyed Aunt Rose. In fact, Peggy Zakarias’s occupation as chaperone to her aunt will be trying, tedious and boring, but what is she to do? Out of a time where being a young woman meant playing by the rules comes this little lady with pluck and vigor who has her eyes set on finding Rose a knight in shining armor, the man of Rose’s dreams—as long as she herself can escape the bait.

Loved it! Every evening, after work, I looked forward to spending time reading Aunt Rose's Wedding. The main character, Peggy, has a great outlook on life and it was fun to follow her along on her adventures and interactions with family members. This book needs more exposure to the public. I am doing my best to get the word out.

What a great story - it doesn't matter if you are Greek, Italian, Irish or any other nationality, you will relate and fall in love with the characters in this book. I enjoyed the feeling of being transported back to that time in our country where families and neighbors lives were so entwined. The tales of dating, love and marriage in Aunt Rose's Wedding are timeless and the relationship between the two main characters, Peggy and Rose, is funny and touching. I would love to see a sequel telling us more of Peggy's life adventures!

5Great Read!!!1  Oct 03, 2008

I loved Aunt Rose's Wedding!!!! I felt like I was part of the family. Peggy was a great character I loved her sense of humor and her spin on every story. The character is truely a heroine, though she is only a teenager she has an old soul charm about her and a confidence that she is not yet aware of. This story shows that the guidance and loved given to each of us can carry us through life to always take the high road in life!
I hope she returns to continue the story. Well done and a good chuckle!
