5Business Innovation  Jul 07, 2008
By Garrett Swanson
I wish I read this book 20 years a go and that the subject was covered in this much depth during my MBA years. I took it with me on a long flight and never put it down. It's a very well done collection and integrated articulation of the history, science and wisdom behind highly effective business innovation. It also serves as a great introduction to some genuine "creative geniuses" and by reference and credits serves as a fitting tribute to one of my all time management heroes (Peter Drucker). In stride the authors brought a lot of what Drucker and others wrote on this subject years ago up to date and built on it in context with the information age; knowledge age; web age and global competition age that we live in today. The book anchors the key concepts and principals with why innovation is all the more critical now for driving growth, share, profitability and differentiation. In aggregate the authors are so thorough applying and explaining innovation/creativity and the related methodologies they'll take you to the edge with repetitiveness. However, given all the noise and ambiguity out there in print related to the subject, I prefer this over the alternative. When I finally learned that sales is more a science than an art I was able to drive more change and results than ever before. This book quickly reminded me that the same can be said for innovation. The book represents a loud wake up call that innovation doesn't happen as often or successfully as it needs to or could without purposefully applying the best science, methodology and implementation practices known to man. Needless to say, I loved this book as I did his Six Sigma Business Scorecard. Praveen is so thorough; when he covers something he "covers " it.

5Innovation Methodology  Oct 26, 2010
By Ed C
For the past year I've been studying and researching to gain perspective on what seems to be the new business buzz of the millennia; innovation. Companies want it, industry and political leaders say it's critical, and the media hypes it to no end. I for one will be teaching it at the MBA-level come January 2011. Yet there are few avenues in which to journey that offer repeatable methodology.

When people discuss innovation they use the word itself to try to encapsulate the process of innovation. They think that the more the word innovation is repeated the better the odds of producing innovation. Unfortunately it does not work that way.

Others try to cover up a lack of methodology by placing emphasis on imagination, creativity and cultivating those two characteristics. As important as those two items are they too do not necessarily produce repeatable results. It would appear under those conditions one has to have a flash of genius or aha moment to survive.

In this book however, Praveen Gupta scientifically proves that anyone can innovate quickly and often. He provides the framework and methodology for the innovative process. After reading Business Innovation In the 21st Century, I was so taken by this approach that I went out to Chicago to meet with Praveen and learn more of his methodology.

After a week I confirmed that he is truly the leader in innovation and in this book he has compiled the most comprehensive information on the subject. If you want to become a master innovator and provide results over and over then you must read this book. There is nothing like it out there and this is sure to become the Six Sigma of leading, innovative companies.

5Business Innovation Well Said  May 04, 2007
By Nancy R. Munro
I found Praveen's book "Business Innovation" as a great collection of practical and real world methods of how to really execute innovation in a business setting. This book could be used as a comprehensive "How to" book for any business struggling with how to embrace and benefit financially from innovation.

5So much more than a 'how to' manual for innovation...  Mar 20, 2007
By Richard J. OBrien
A tour de force effort. Praveen draws on his deep background in the measurement of business process implementations to make the subject of innovation accessible to all who wish to foster creativity in our institutions. The book's organization is excellent. One can read straight through for the full effect or skip around to glean new insights. Chapter 10, "Measures of Innovation" illuminates the path ahead for this important journey.

5Great teaching resource and practical reference  Jan 19, 2012
By Harun Asad
As a veteran innovation practitioner and university educator, I often use this book in my teaching and in the corporate arena. I find the chapters on customer centricity, open innovation and innovation measurement especially useful. But the material overall is comprehensive, up-to-date and easy to digest for professionals and students alike.
