4Weight Loss Based on Love of God and Love of Self  Jun 09, 2011
By BigHeart
Author Marcia Hayes Cody developed a series of 21 daily devotions and prayers that lead you to take off weight by taking better care of yourself. Instead of the relentless focus on dieting, Cody puts the priority on connecting with God and love of self. Even more, she offers herself up as a living example of how to transform from an ample size 22 couch potato into a lean and active size 16 Zumba instructor.

Cody's typical message has a warm and friendly Gospel flair which I really enjoyed. Here's an example: "Most Holy God, my real Daddy, thank you for blessing me on this renovation project...I am your child, so I know I come from good stock." I'm not into organized religion of any kind, but I like that Cody gets up close and personal with God without being goofy about it. Even though Be Healthy is subtitled as a "Christian alternative," it might appeal to anyone with a spiritual orientation who's open to a path toward a loving God.

Cody and her work first captured my attention several years ago when I was hosting a radio show about different weight loss methodologies, and her happy impact stuck with me over time. Even now, I'm more apt to pick up Cody's book and re-read it than other weight loss books that have been on the bestseller list. For one thing, Cody dares to depart from the programmed party line, so to speak, and to say something that's not just different but deeply inspiring. She also provides practical, doable advice in easy steps that everyone can follow, and there's something to be said for that.

The downside is that Be Healthy suffers from poor editing, poor formatting and a small regional platform. That said, I have great tolerance for a passionate, credible author who has the gumption to extend a message that otherwise would not be heard.
