Hooray for Dr. Cuje Feb 06, 2010
By EBM This book is full of insight and wisdom. The References, Bibliography and Index are all extremely helpful. Dr. Cuje presents a well thought out and well researched program to get one out of the "same old same old" and moving ahead into maturity and the joy of life. Learning how to recognize patterns of behavior that are detrimental to life and having an approach that will allow you to release the old and choose the new is a wonderfully freeing experience. How refreshing it is to see oneself with compassion and to be able to then be more compassionate to others. Buy it, read it, do it, and you will be amazed at the results!

Dr. Cuje's Tools Really Work. Feb 05, 2010
By Roslyn Gardner Dr. Cuje's book is a flashlight for me. Walking back through painful times I would rather forget...but this time I have the tools to walk through not just brooding over the past but out, to the other side - out of Shadow and into the Light. Dr. Cuje very clearly gives us precise tools to use to come out of shadow. She writes with a wealth of knowledge and a compassionate voice as she seems to encourage the reader to do the work for change.

Great therapy interventions! Mar 03, 2010
By Jodi L. Eanes Fantastic! As a therapist, I recognize that much of the Choice-Cube Method draws on several evidence based theories of psychotherapy. Dr. Cuje' provides a structure, format, and many tools that can be utilized in a self help, or counseling office environment. She provides wonderful images, and tools to address the important connection between the emotions, mind, body and will. Clients seem to embrace the Choice-Become the Person You Were Meant to Be: Step by Step to Choice and ChangeCube Method. When asked what they liked best some client's have said, "the structure" (cubi), "the framework" (the bridge), and "the take- aways" (the tools). As a therapist I enjoy using the method with clients, and seeing their delight as they recognize their personal therapeutic goals. I also recommend this book to clients as bibliotherapy.

Shadow and Light May 18, 2011
By Rebecca Johnson
"The Rebecca Review"
"To some extent, those we focus on run our lives. We remain their perpetual victims." ~ pg. 75
Have you ever felt out of control? As if your emotions are controlling you and you can't find balance and peace? Do you experience a lot of confusion, grief, fear, anxiety, shame and anger? Well the information in this book will show you how to resolve issues quickly and in an organized fashion.
Dr. Beth Blevins Cuje teaches you how to be a wise parent to yourself and how to comfort yourself when you are distressed. She talks a lot about how we are either in shadow mode or light mode and how we can get from darkness and despair to the sunlight of love.
I thought she had some very interesting thoughts on willpower and how the body and emotions overpower the will. She also explains how we can become addicted to negative emotions. She also sometimes says some startling things that shock you back into reality like: "we program ourselves with every choice we make."
This is a very thoughtful book with a loving tone and especially helpful tools. I read the book from start to finish but after I reached the tools section I realized I would have understood the book better had I read them first. So I suggest you read part five first. This is the section with the "Choice-Cube Tools." Once you understand to use the tools you can then apply them to your situation. For instance there are breathing exercises that will calm you and there are scrambling techniques that help you release negative emotions.
I think many people who experience meltdowns will appreciate the advice in this book. Simple things like walking in a figure eight can calm you down. There is also a hand tapping technique that is useful. Many of the tools are best done in private but some can be done in public like moving the eyes from side to side while you have your eyes closed.
This book will teach you how to accept and love yourself and to nurture yourself during times of conflict. Whatever you are experiencing, there is hope that you can overcome it. This book shows the way.
