Being Amanda - In Europe

Being Amanda in Europe is the first in a planned series of self-labeled "reality travel" books authored and edited by the adventure-oriented Gilstrap family of Phoenix, Arizona. The emotional, yet consistently humorous, journal follows the family's attempts to remain actively involved in each other's lives during 19-year-old Amanda's colorful "study abroad" college travels. Based out of one the most beautiful college campus locations in the world (Gaming, Austria at the base of the Alps), Amanda eventually traveled with classmates to and through 12 countries. The book reveals her spirited determination to make the most out of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. During the journey, she goes cliff jumping on the Italian coast, bikes through rural Ireland, samples Guinness Beer in Dublin, eats crepes at the base of the Eifel Tower in Paris, and visits many Catholic shrines and historic sites.

5Being Amanda - In Europe  Jun 28, 2008
By Greg W. Gilstrap "AZ85086"
Being Amanda--In Europe features the e-mail communications, a journal of sorts, between Amanda and her father as she enthusiastically embraces her journey across Europe. As her adventure unfolds, the commitment to a constant flow of communication gradually unveils a deep love story between father and daughter. The miles between them, in a sense, serve as a unique opportunity to comfortably share some of their deepest thoughts.

Emily Wright, the talented book critic for Freedom Way Magazine, said the following: "This is the story of a young woman coming of age, discovering the glory of her faith, and understanding the meaning of family, all through her experiences as a student studying abroad and the email correspondence she shares with her father while she is away. Being Amanda in Europe is a story for readers of all ages. It is honest and uplifting and between the laughs and the tears, this story will remind you of the power of love. I can only hope that one day my own children will have the opportunity to be themselves in Europe, just like Amanda! "Being Amanda - In Europe

5Being Amanda - In Europe  Sep 07, 2009

A beautiful little treasure of a book! Adventurous Amanda is the consummate traveler, planning ahead and yet ready and willing for whatever the new day brings...stopping to smell the "roses" at every chance. Having her dad along via e-mail, sharing wisdom and humor and news of home was the icing on the cake. This little book is hard to put down and one you want to keep and reread again and again. The pictures were a great addition. Knowing it was assembled through the faith and love of the whole Gilstrap family makes it even more attractive and something the world is sorely in need of now.
