Beyond Sight and Beyond Sound: Truly thought provoking! Jul 09, 2006 Eugene Chigbu in his work `Beyond Sound and Beyond Sight' beautifully strings together a spectrum of day-to-day emotions that resonates a humane at the same time ethereal quality. He endeavors to put across his deepest feelings, while examining socio-politico-economic issues, that the hearts of millions of people over the world identify with. He pays a soulful tribute to some of these people who merely exist, not really experiencing and comprehending how beautiful life can be. He speaks of hushed pain, of muted anger- helpless, of evil, of ecstasy, of hope, of faith and of love of life and freedom that seeks to triumph.... this shines forth in Chigbu's words.... 'We are today a tiny fire burning in the eyes of strong blowing wind'.
I really enjoyed it Jun 21, 2006 Reading this book was not stressful as it has always been with me where it relates to poetry. I followed the poems and understood their messages. Reading poetry has not been a great interest to me, but this book pricked my interest in poetry. I loved it really.
I enjoyed it May 28, 2006 The book-cover is simply poetic and reflects beauty beyond the ordinary. The author does not shy away from strong opinions. My guess is that the first chapter of them book will either create a hater or lover out of the reader. I loved the poem dedicated to Ken Bigley, Tom Fox and Margreth Hassan who were all beheaded by the insurgents in Iraq. Also I loved the one for Ken Saro Wiwa, the hanged Nigeria environmental activist. The last chapter is relaxing, yet mentally tasking and yet it's all about love.
Incisive May 26, 2006 Beyond Sight and Beyond Sound made a good reading to me. The language is elegiac and graceful, yet deeply expressive. The imagery is rich and evocative. The various moods of the verse share a quality of incisiveness and both direct and indirect communication.
I felt a sense of philosophy behind the creation of these poems. They touch on real issues. Its is hard to say which was my favourite poem in the entire collection. While the poem REFUGEE appears to touch on crisis and poverty, POLITICAL SEASONS seem to dwell on the intrigues employed by politicians to deceive their people and probabaly wonders why people prefer not to revolt. In fact, there is a kind of revolutionary spirit hidden within the lines of the poems. But how such revolutionary spirits ends up rhapsodising about issues of love (as can be seen in the last chapter of the book) remains a wonder to me.
I actually went for the book because I thought it was all about Nigeria, but I was actually wrong. It is all about the world. I simply loved reading it.

Simply different - evocative May 25, 2006 I have read this anthology with great interest. These poems are well thought out and display a good use of imagery and an individual opinion.
The author's approach to poetry is all embracing. The themes are well chosen and his style is different. Each of the poems can be interpreted in different ways and still maintain the messages normally hidden (and in few cases unhidden) in them.
The reader is usually treated to a rich and unusual imagery. Firm and authoritative, the verses are impressive in both breadth and content, as well as the poet's awareness of self and others.
The whole work takes the reader through a trip round the world of events and life generally. Its simplicity in form is unique.
The poems 'Refugee' and 'Within our walls' made my best reading. I recommend this work for other readers.
