3Some interesting and useful information  Jan 23, 2009
By A. S. Johnson "seeking change"
This book is a collection of articles discussing different aspects of e-government and e-democracy. Topics include:

- The need for more community infrastructure in the form of high-speed internet connectivity to make e-government successful

- The need for government and political backing to make e-democracy successful

- Examples of where e-government has been successful

Here are some of my thoughts on the articles:

-I found that a lot of the articles on the need for greater interconnectivity were repetitious. The information was valuable, but after two or three articles, it became boring.

-The writing in this book is filled with technical jargon and is typical of papers written for conferences, so it was not always easy to follow.

-There were several case studies of implementing e-government, and while they were interesting, I don't believe the information is easily extended to other cities and other situations.

-There is one very good case study of New Orleans which I think does a good job of describing features of e-democracy.

Overall, the book has some useful information, but count on a lot of it to be repetitive.
