Great to get your feet wet with! Jan 17, 2010
By Cherise Kachelmuss
"Mom and More"
Now since I haven't been to Disney World in 9 years and I have never been there with young kids before, I was nervous to say the least. I was going to wait until they were about 5-6 years old but I just couldn't pass up the great deal we got. Then I heard about the book "Beyond the Attractions: A Guide to Walt Disney World with Preschoolers" by Lisa M. Battista and I calmed down.
"Beyond the Attractions" is an awesome guide to basically traveling around Disney World with kids 5 and under. Since I am sure there are many people out there who think they have to wait until their kids are older, like I did, this book shows how it is possible to go when they are younger. It is a paperback book perfect for taking with you to Disney World and I found its 178 pages easy to read.
The book does not go into too much depth about the rides, but it really focuses on which rides you can take young kids on, where you have to visit, the resort hotels, preparing for your trip and more. I learned so much from this book, that it is really going to help us on our Disney vacation. I now know where the Character Greeting Locations are, what restaurants are most kid-friendly, and what features on rides could be scary. Honestly, this book is a great book to get you started.
Throughout the book there are only a few prices listed, since they also change, but there are phone numbers and addresses listed in the back. There are also great tips listed, for example, to dine at the Magic Kingdom you have to make reservations 180 days in advance! The book definitely could have contained more, but like I said it is a perfect book to wet our feet with. There are no pictures or maps, but it is a simple book of tips. I especially love her Packing List for Preschoolers as it has many items, I never thought of!

This book is filled with wonderful tips on how to make traveling with young children enjoyable and affordable. I have traveled to Florida recently with a toddler and wish I had read this book before I went.

Amazing ideas Sep 22, 2010
By Shannon Sullivan Great input from an author who has clearly been there. The books captures the fun and magic, but reminds us to slow down and let the kids be kids. LOVE IT! This is a great gift for new parents, or those who plan to take a family trip soon.

Total Waste of Money Aug 25, 2010
By Bluecat Save your money and use common sense in your trip. This book does not provide anything you can't find over the internet for free. Extremely dissapointed.

Not worth it. Jun 22, 2010
By B. Page I was very excited to get this book, but was less than impressed. Most of the descriptions are generic and add little from what most people would already realize. For example, a deluxe hotel will offer more amenities than the value hotel. Few of the rides or attractions were explained in any detail and many of the tips were general travel tips and had nothing to do with Disney World like suggesting you bring lots of snacks and toys to entertain the kids during downtimes. There were no maps, no time estimates from the various hotels, nothing about outside options for hotels and vague information. I realize prices change, but it would be nice to know what the dining plan prices are, if there is a charge for amenities such as the Fastpass and package delivery etc. The book cannot be used as a stand alone, because none of the necessary information is included inside. I did like the playground and pool reviews for the hotels, but that was about it. I would recommend Walt Disney World with Kids 2010 instead. It is much more detailed and also offers information about Universal and Orlando.
