A deftly composed encouragement to anyone hoping to do more with their bicycle May 07, 2008 Bicycling is a fun exciting hobby that can do wonders to get people in shape and save on gas money with rising fuel costs - among other benefits. "Bicycle Journeys with Jerry: Recreational Cyclist Recounts Experiences from Vermont to the Pyrenees" follows author and serious cyclist Jerry Dusterhoff as he speaks on one of those other benefits - adventure, as he recounts his tales of cycling across the country, including once covering the entire nation in less than two months of bicycling. "Bicycle Journeys with Jerry: Recreational Cyclist Recounts Experiences from Vermont to the Pyrenees" is a deftly composed encouragement to anyone hoping to do more with their bicycle and is highly recommended to community library collections focusing on sports and bicycling.
CHALLENGING MILES WITH LOTS OF SMILES Mar 13, 2008 It is always enjoyable to read a book written by someone who has found a way to happily and healthily lead their life. Jerry Dusterhoff discovered a love of cycling which initially consisted of commuting to work but eventually took him to touring by bike, making new friends and expanding his personal goals.
After many years as a commuter cyclist Jerry decided that a vacation should include a visit to Vermont and some of the best cycling roads in the US. With his wife Marilane handling some of the logistics, touring Vermont by bike turned out to be so enjoyable that Jerry began to look into some of the trips offered throughout the country by Adventure Cycling. This proved to be a super opportunity to meet fellow riders and as sometimes happens along the way, friendships are made that will change the future for all. Before he knew it rides with the gang became an annual event , his goal to cycle across the US a reality and a wonderful trip along some of the Tour De France routes a lifetime highlight.
BICYCLE JOURNEYS WITH JERRY is perfect for families, couples or anyone looking to venture into cycling tours. Although most cycling books of this type give the usual stats and places to stay, Jerry includes other tidbits that one might not be able to learn from cycling brochures or off the Internet. My personal favorite was learning the best spots for ice cream, a must after a long ride! Of course, you'll also learn that you initially may make mistakes in apparel or equipment, but probably not more then once. Your tour itinerary may exclude the occasional killer hill, but then you get the chance to see just how fast you can go down the other side. Most of all, if you have a good map and good friends you will never, ever, get lost, only temporarily misplaced.
It's not just about cycling... Mar 10, 2008 Inspiring, funny, engaging and full of details of great cycling trips across the world. Jerry takes the reader on a tour of many places we have only thought of in our mind but haven't made our mind up to go. He pushes us to want to book the reservations today to some of the most beautiful places in America. Jerry shares his experiences of great cycling trips, great cycling friends and gives the reader great life advice along the way. You don't have to be a cyclist to enjoy this book. A must read for everyone who is planning a vacation to visit some of America's treasures.

Fantastic insight into cycling and cyclists Mar 09, 2008 Jerry's travel anecdotes are more than travelogue and cycling memories. While his journeys take the reader to a variety of stunning locations, he reveals a compelling cast of cycling characters. These stories are not just one man's cycling experience. They are one man's view of social cycling. We meet Jerry's cycling buddies and see how the different backgrounds, motivations, and experiences have turned a solitary exercise into a fun pastime. If you are thinking of taking up cycling, or taking your cycling in a new direction, this book is a must-read.
