Ninny and Allen were madly in love. Yet she recognized that her intuition and apprehension happened to be true: she and her boyfriend belonged to two different worlds. She belonged to a world inhabited by her people and ruled by ancestral traditions, including Voodoo; he belonged to a sophisticated world of positive knowledge, populated by the enemies of her people.
