5'Pick Yourself up, Brush Yourself Off, and Start All Over Again'  Feb 19, 2010
By Grady Harp
Roger E. Hawkins has earned his reputation as an exceptional Industrial Organizational Psychologist. His work with executive development and his guides in career planning are copied by all those who have come under the influence of his compassionate knowledge. And if there ever was a time when his expertise was globally needed it is clearly now as we all cope with the recession and the paring down of corporations and big as well as small businesses. This book, BLINDSIDED: SURVIVING CAREER MELTDOWN is a remarkably succinct workbook that when placed in the hands of the freshly unemployed wastes no time in getting to the heart of the matter - specific directions on brushing up the resume, the interview skills, the negotiations and the achieving the goal of finding an even better job than the one that seemed the end of the world as it melted out the door.

Wisely, Hawkins wastes no time. Not that he does not offer background information for directing the reader on how to best utilize this workable workbook: he asks essential foundation questions such as 'Who am I' and proceeds from that point to prepare the reader both emotionally and physically to get out there and research jobs, discover the core of the companies to be approached, preps the interviewee with questions to expect - questions about self, about motivation, about previous employment, and about expectations. Though it may sound a bit pedestrian to say that Hawkins' book is more 'pages to fill in the answers' than it is a motivational text, that is the reason it is so immediately useful. If the truth be known, this book will end up teaching the reader more about him/herself and even open doors of confidence and heightened expectations than just about any other resource around. Hawkins in many ways offers every reader a new vista of a life that can be better than anything that has gone before the present one.

For all those who have fallen victim to the career meltdown, and for those who are wise enough to think ahead and prepare for the worst, this little book is invaluable. Highly recommended - even for the young folks out to search for their first job post college! Grady Harp, February 10

By J. Kraushar "Co-Author of Amazon Bestseller "You Are The Message""
If you've ever been blindsided by a career meltdown, this book restores your vision with outstanding practical exercises that give you valuable tools for success in evaluating your skills, resume writing, networking and interviewing. The numerous forms, tips and listed resources clearly show you what to do to win in your job (and life planning) campaigns. Also important is Hawkins' advice on avoiding common mistakes. This book can take you from feeling damnation to experiencing transformation.

4Great workbook for anyone that is or knows a job casualty  Jan 11, 2010
By Lester G. Detterbeck
I just finished Blind-sided: Surviving Career Meltdown. A few years ago, I had read Michael Lewis's Blindsided about left offensive tackles and recently saw Sandra Bullock in the movie about Michael Oher. Those Blindsided's were enjoyable; Dr. Hawkin's book was certainly more meaningful.
I own my own business and have not survived a career meltdown. But, like many others, I have lots of friends and associates who have. These folks need honest, informed help. It seems to me that Roger Hawkins has done an excellent job of hitting the issue straight on and then providing real-life information to get the job casualty back on her or his feet and get employed. I thought its workbook format and cartoons made it a highly effective guide.
I have already passed it along to one job casualty friend of mine and expect there will be others who will profit from it as well.

5Good Advice  Jan 22, 2010
By C. E. Steel
Timing is everything they say. With so many people unemployed "Blind-Sided" by Roger E. Hawkins is a must read. Actually, it should be used as a constant guide while looking for a job or for those looking to make a career change. Blind-Sided is like having a management consultant in your hip pocket! The book is precise, easy to read and full of great information. I particularily like the "Good Advice" segments.
