Breaking The Chains of Culture: Building Trust in Individuals, Teams, and Organizations

In Breaking the Chains of Culture Vukotich looks at trust and its role in building successful relationships at the individual, team, and organization level. Based on over 20 years of experience and work with thousands of individuals he identifies and addresses common barriers that keep us from being as effective as possible. He creates a framework to help us understand how what we have learned in the past may be counterproductive to being successful in our current and changing environments (e.g. if we want to encourage teamwork why do we reward individuals). Case studies are provided to emphasize key points and self-reflective questions are asked to help us understand how we as individuals can be more effective in building relationships.

5Trust in Corproate America?  May 22, 2009
I couldn't help but dive into this read given the unprecedented economic cycle we are experiencing. As our free market system faltered, the systemic lack of trust throughout corporate America had a bright light shined upon it.

This book is required reading for companies the are centered on their most vital asset - their employees. Breaking the Chains of Culture offers tools and ideas that can be put to immediate use.

As Dr. Vokotich emphasizes, people that have high degrees of trust are willing to take exponential levels of risk in their day to day contributions. Creating a break-through, learning environment will not happen without setting the scene and identifying trouble before it becomes systemic. Dr. Vokotich offers pragmatic insight, examples and tools to manage more effective teams and embed trust into your organization.

5An Excellent Read  May 05, 2009
In Breaking the Chains of Culture, Vukotich does a great job in helping individuals understand how the trust process works. He takes a complicated topic and breaks it down into easy to understand pieces. Too often we get so involved in our work we don't pay enough attention to our relationships, which in the end are the key to being successful. He includes a number of examples that are easy to understand and help in understanding why leaders often look behind them only to find there are no followers there. This book has made a difference in our organization and how we work with each other. I recommend it to anyone looking to be more effective and to help people understand how to better work together.

5Breaking Chains of Culure  Jan 20, 2009
This book helps me understand cultural differences in organizations. It's insights on how to help folks think out of the box to be effective in change and realistic in their expectations.

I especially liked how George breaks down a very complicated subject to easy to understand and builds my trust to help my team work through difficult times.

5"Numbers" Person Finds Value in "Breaking The Chains of Culture"  Jan 10, 2009
2008 brought my organization the opportunity to provide services to a client in the midst of changing ownership, location, size and product lines. The client was experiencing challenges in its relationships with the community, among the partners and among the employees. We were asked to participate on a strategic level with management and we were expected to contribute in financial matters. These human resource issues surfaced in almost every conversation and we could not ignore them. I found Dr. Vukotich's book a well-written guided tour into an area that is very new to me. The case studies in Breaking The Chains created vivid examples that I could relate to our new role and they provided us with tools that we will continue to use in our services. I am a "numbers guy" giving 5 stars to this intelligent approach to nuturing human capital.

5Building Trust in a Changing Environment  Nov 27, 2008
A few years back I acquired a competitor. The cultures of the new acquisition and our current company were very different and there were challenges in getting individuals from the sister companies to work together. There were different approaches and different ways of doing things. It was not until we worked with Dr. Vukotich and looked at the issues of "culture and trust" and addressed them before we were able to work together and as a team. A lot of the tools and techniques he used with us are covered in this great book. A must read for anyone looking to be more effective in their career and wanting to be more effective in working with others.
