Wonderful Beginner's Material Unfolding Into Advanced Material As You Grow Jun 07, 2010
By Roy Kirby Chaudoir
"Roy"
Dwayne Belgard has been a Zen practitioner familiar to me since 1970. His dedication and ethics are pure and above reproach. His tone is just right. He speaks to "you" as a person and acknowledges that he is covering ground for both the beginner and the advanced student. He has however, a style that is so totally clear and understandable that you find yourself rereading the book and each time getting something new from the pages that you had not seen before.
Breath Consciousness as the way to be free of self-centered egoistic self-serving orientation is placed before the reader in a manner that allows you to practice as you read, and which calls you back over and over to each of the chapters for the particular lesson unfolding in the book available material to you as your consciousness deepens.
This is orthodox and honest Mahayana Buddhism, translated into 21st Century English. Dwayne even translates some of the original Pali texts for our benefit, with particular focus on freedom from self-deception and samsara.
This now is the book I give to others who ask me "What is Buddhism" or "How do I meditate" or "Can you tell me what to read to help me get out of the rut of my redundant thinking about my problems over and over."
This is a book I've settled on to keep as the one book beside my sitting spot.
