Bridge To Unity: Unified Field-Based Science and Spirituality

The book is a logically consistent view of nature. Carefully bridging scientific theory and empirical experience in the inner laboratory of the mind, it illumines the most challenging issues in modern science--the mind-body problem, the nature of spacetime, cosmological origins, determinism vs. free will, the hard problem of consciousness, and higher human development. Insightful quotes from leading historical scholars and contemporary scientists connect the dots in quantum physics, cognitive science, and neuroscience beyond the fragmented physicalist worldview to an empirically verifiable unified field-based understanding.

5Highly Recommended  Dec 16, 2008
By Park Hensley "parkhensley"
During my graduate studies in physics, my thesis advisor, knowing my desire/intention to attempt to truly understand Quantum Mechanics and perhaps to even write about it, mentioned that this was the fastest way to professional oblivion. It's just not done. Fortunately, there are others braver than I was. Such a one is Dr. Robert Boyer. In Bridge to Unity, he has not only managed to give a brilliantly profound and ultimately simple understanding of what almost everyone else thinks is just beyond human logic, but at the same time forged a complete integration of it with the latest thinking in psychology and human evolution. He shows that to understand QM it is necessary to think on a very deep level of how all science is done, and doing this leads to a revolution in understanding not only QM but also the farthest reaches of human potential and an integration of all life.

Some fascinating and truly life-altering chapters are the Prologue (in which the very first lines are, "All the research in modern science has led to the doorstep of the ultimate unity of nature. The next step is direct empirical validation of unity... Consciousness is the 'lamp at the door..." This is heavy stuff); Chapter 1 - The Subjective Basis of Objectivity, and Chapter 2 - Developing Subjective Consistency and Coherence. These form the introduction to the book.

Then the book moves on to physics and its theories of matter, energy, space and time. Chapter 3 introduces fundamental dilemmas in relativity and quantum theories with respect to their integration in unified field theory. Chapter 4 is a profoundly clarifying description of quantum theory, and Chapter 5 gives modern perspectives on quantum theory such as decoherence, consistent histories and neorealist interpretations, identifying how each falls short of adequately describing the process of observation and the role of the observer, but then brings out how a more expanded picture of the levels of reality resolves these shortcomings. These are just the things that I wished I could have thought about in graduate school. Chapter 6-7 continues with where modern perspectives on quantum gravity are today and demonstrates that the concepts of space and existence are becoming more abstract, leading to recognition of mental space underlying physical space, associated with the contemporary concept of quantum mind. Chapter 8 is mind-blowing, original and extraordinarily important for physicists to read. It is here that the book dives so deeply into the quantum model of physical reality, the subtler mental reality, and the underlying unified field (the Holy Grail of physics.) Chapter 11 and 12 describe an enumeration of the levels of creation delineated in a branch of ancient Vedic Science called Sankhya, showing in detail a correspondence between the phenomenal levels of nature in modern physical theories and Vedic science which sheds a whole new light on ancient Vedic seers.

This correspondence lays the groundwork for then considering the field of psychology and its understanding of human psycho-architecture and levels of mind, from which can be derived the possibility of higher states of consciousness. Being the subject of a different field than mine, I won't elaborate further except to say that everyone should read Chapters 19 and 20, "Transcendental Consciousness: The Bridge to Unity" and "Full Enlightenment: The Fifth, Sixth and Seventh States of Consciousness." Chapters 21 and 22 go even further into considering the implications of full human potential.

The book culminates with the incredible discovery of the Veda as being perfectly replicated in the human body, revolutionary new research in Maharishi Vedic Science and Technology. With this picture firmly in mind, one is ready for the last chapter which establishes that the universe and the individual are ultimately one. The book has been described as a roadmap to genuine scientific enlightenment; it is just That.

Grab it! This book is gold.
