Buhle Jul 21, 2009
By J. Anderson Wow! What a story! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Buhle. When I'm not too involved with a book I usually scan it very fast, but I read Buhle slowly focusing on every word. It held my attention through every chapter, and each chapter left me wondering what would happen next. I'm amazed at how the author managed to bring the plot and lives of so many characters together. The book is filled with mystery, history, adventure, excitement, fear, anger, anxiety, surprise, sadness and great happiness!
When I was younger I could cry rather easily but with the passing of each year and living through the normal pains of life, I have reached a point in my life when tears just don't come regardless of the situation. On page 174 I read, "The six of them went out that evening to a restaurant for dinner. It was not a celebration as there were too much of tragedy uncovered during the trial, but they needed to be together to honor the friendship that developed between them. It was a testament that people of all races could co-exist regardless of their skin color." When I read this I was really surprised because I realized that my eyes were beginning to water. I can't remember being so touched by a book that it brought tears to my eyes.
As I read anxiously through each chapter I was so afraid that the book would have a sad ending, but after reading the final chapter, I once again experienced that strange watering of my eyes. It was a good feeling though and it made me happy!
I'm so glad that I finally had some quiet time to devote to Buhle. I was thoroughly engrossed in the pages as I went chapter by chapter, but now I'm left with a bit of sadness that I finished it. I guess that how it's supposed to be!
Great Story Feb 06, 2008
By S. Albertone I really enjoyed this book. The story shows how racism and discrimination change people's lives forever. Yet it provides hope that courage and love can overcome even the worst circumstances. You'll want to keep reading once you begin the book.
Fast paced and exciting Dec 21, 2007
By Beth A. Pettit This is an excellent book that brings the reader into the hardship and clashes of peoples during the apartid years in South Africa. It is a cultural experience from a very personal view by the author. The characters in the book bring together all that is good in human nature and all that is evil. The book is rich with character and environment details that lets the reader feel like they are right there. Fast-moving and tense with excitement, plan some time to read it straight through.
