only semi-informative May 13, 2007
By Crimson I was skeptical about by this book based on the cover, but as a graphic designer who is a little shaky on their pre-press skills I thought it would be helpful. Come to find out I should have gone with my gut. I did find a few paragraphs to be informative and helpful, but would not recommend this book to someone- especially not at it's suggested price. The book itself had alot of random information that did not seem to flow together and unless you knew some about pre-press you would have a hard time following and as someone with some pre-press knowledge you would not get your money's worth.

I'm a production manager for a mid-size commercial printer. We see a vast array of files submitted to us - from the absolute worst to files that are perfectly created (bleeds, fonts, images etc.) and are ready to print.
I received a copy of Karen's book for review and found it exactly what I was hoping would appear for sale some day. I don't have the technical expertise to write such a book myself but find the book to be a huge help to more "novicey" designers. They may be excellent designers but there's usually a huge gap in their knowledge about getting their files to print.
We have since purchased approximately 40 copies of this book and sent them to various different clients and designers - and have noticed immediate improvement in the quality of the files that are submitted to us. This not only saves us valuable pre-flighting time but avoids the unpleasant "extra charges" that we have to pass on to clients for additional graphics time spent on their projects.
Well done Karen!
