5Touching Story  Aug 08, 2007
Aside from the completely endearing illustrations, the most touching aspect of this story is the core values at the root of it. There is a lot of love, understanding and compasion, and while the subject matter may not be considered generally of interest to children, it is a sincere effort to address what does become a harsh reality to children trying to understand loss. What I love about how this little book presents loss is the lack of emphasis on "death happens for a reason" which is a very popular concept used to comfort people. Instead, the message is to appreciate life, and valuing the life that was had can overcome the sorrow of the loss, taking the emphasis off death and reiterating the bond between Byron and his balloon.
I would definitely recommend this book, if nothing else because the characters are so adorable. I would love to see this author do a type of series where he could develop the personalities of his characters, since their little faces already have so much personality themselves.

5Very Touching  Feb 17, 2007
This book is perfect for helping children open up about loss and death. The graphics are sweet, and the story is well told. I highly recommend it for any adult trying to help their child understand and cope with loss.
