Cancer Prevention

In Cancer Prevention, Del Parkinson summarizes his research about causes of cancer, explaining in laymen’s terms the scientific and the practical implications of cancer-causing benzene and benzene derivatives found in many consumer products, including powdered laundry detergents, pain relievers and cold medicines. Parkinson issues a passionate call for further research by the scientific community, greater public awareness about benzene in consumer products, and a change in corporate behavior. He states, “Corporations have known for years that benzene is a carcinogen, but they continue to add it to their products without regard for our health. When the people of America find out that detergent manufacturers and pharmaceutical corporations have knowingly used cancer-causing benzene in their products for the last 50 years, they will understand the reason for our current cancer epidemic. And hopefully the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will finally hold these corporations accountable.”

5VERY Important and Compelling Scientific Work  Jun 26, 2008
This book is really on to something. Most people think laundry detergent is soap. It is not. Detergents are mostly petrochemicals derived from crude oil. One important derivative being Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonates (LAS).

The medical industry is mostly clueless as to what causes cancer, which has now grown to become the #1 killer of Americans. The "scientists" are making hundreds of billions in profit from this horrible disease and have offered virtually nothing in the form of a cure or a cause. Cancer is just too profitable for them. The "chemist" who critiqued this book probably works for a detergent or chemical company (where else would a chemist find a job?)

This book makes an extremely compelling argument for the most dominant cause for cancer. It should be taken very seriously by any researcher on the subject.

Think about it. Who DOESN'T use laundry detergents to wash their clothes? And every hospital, nursing home, army base, hotel, prison, university, etc. washes with these same petrochemicals. They are on our skin and being breathed in all day and all night via our clothes, towels, blankets, pillowcases, etc.

The extreme pervasiveness of laundry detergent in our society, and detergent's connection to LAS, makes Parkinson's theory extremely compelling. This book is highly recommended by me, in addition the PhD and Rhodes Scholar who wrote the forward to this book.

1Lack of reputable knowledge  Jul 14, 2007
Obviously not a scientist and has limited knowlege of chemistry. To enlighten the general public (as a chemist), benzene is an organic molecule which does in fact have carcinogenic (cancer-causing) properties. Mr. Parkinson, however, claims that any molecule that contains a benzene derivative causes cancer which is a downright foolish statement. For example, adding one carbon to benzene makes toluene, a completely different molecule that is not carcinogenic. Cancer has many causes that science is working furiously to uncover. Do not believe the lies of people who are only interested in selling you books, believe the scientists who have devoted their lives to finding the true causes of disease.
