In Cancer Prevention, Del Parkinson summarizes his research about causes of cancer, explaining in laymen’s terms the scientific and the practical implications of cancer-causing benzene and benzene derivatives found in many consumer products, including powdered laundry detergents, pain relievers and cold medicines. Parkinson issues a passionate call for further research by the scientific community, greater public awareness about benzene in consumer products, and a change in corporate behavior. He states, “Corporations have known for years that benzene is a carcinogen, but they continue to add it to their products without regard for our health. When the people of America find out that detergent manufacturers and pharmaceutical corporations have knowingly used cancer-causing benzene in their products for the last 50 years, they will understand the reason for our current cancer epidemic. And hopefully the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will finally hold these corporations accountable.”
