Carolina Memory

Author Brenda Bragg writes with a lyrical prose that transcends time and place in Carolina Memory, a new novel that examines eternal matters of the heart in the early years of the Old South. Blending genres of fantasy and historical fiction, this debut sparks the imaginative ties that bind to historical realities. When Alicia is left at the altar she is all but devastated until unknown powers transport her from the present time to the distant past. Thrust into a world where Native Americans are at war with colonists in South Carolina, each day becomes a battle to survive. As she makes her way between worlds, she must learn to trust herself and her instincts. Ultimately, she learns that to truly love is to surrender herself against all odds and with complete abandon.

Romance novels are most likely the last books that I read. When Brenda wrote "Carolina Memory", I knew that I would be forced to read it. After my arm straightened out and the editing began, I found that my interest in the story grew and before I had finished the first chapter I was looking for more.

I thought that my growing interest was just temporary husbandly pride. I was wrong. As the story developed and changed, I would have to re-read and edit. For a book that I would not have picked up, each of the eight readings have been better than the previous.

My only explanation for this interest is that the story is much more than just romance. It begins in modern day, but most of it occurs during the 1600's (time-travel). It is based on research and fact (historical). It is the daily activity of living the early pioneer life (drama). It is fighting and surviving an indian war (action).

Now that the story has been published,I know that I will read it again. I won't have to work and concentrate on every comma and period. I won't have to watch for paragraph and sentence structure. Storyline continuity won't be subject to change. I will just read the story because it is a very good story that is well written and has completely captured my interest.
