Chameleon War Jan 21, 2009 This was about the worst book I have ever read. The characters were not developed, nor was the plot. The book wandered from one inane scene to the next with no continuity. Because I finish ever book I start I struggled through to the end. It never got better. Buying it was a waste of money. Reading it a waste of time.
A Thrilling Ride Oct 17, 2008 This book knocked my hat off. It's an exciting vividly drawn chase through the Islands. The characters were compelling from the get-go and I was really drawn into the story. In fact, there were times when I simply could not put the book down. The plot twists and weaves in mind bending ways that not only grasp you by the ankles but tickle your funny bone.
All in all I highly recommend this.

Show us More! Sep 30, 2008 I just got done reading Chameleon War and I was thoroughly impressed. I was expecting some light reading, but it turned out to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. Imagine the Coen Brothers channeling Tom Robbins--the settings, sounds and even the weather are almost characters themselves.
The protagonist, Hagen (is Crone a Wagnerian?) is just living the Caribbean drifter life, bumming around in the barrier islands of Belize, when his life gets entangled with some bad news people with their own strange hang-ups.
Without going into a lot of detail (and to not risk spoiling any of the awesome plot twists) I'll just say that it is ultimately a story of how the good things in life persist through everything. It's a totally unique story that left me grinning from ear to ear when I finished. Yet it also stuck in my mind for a few days while the magnitude soaked in. I'll definitely read this again to catch all the subtle detail that Crone scattered throughout. Please write more, Mr. Crone!

A Belizian adventure for the strong-stomached Jul 14, 2008 I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a ported wanderer who finds a home on the pier of Caye Caulker, easily finding a home as an ex-pat local. The characters were well-developed and I felt a kinship with main character Hagen after developing a deep-seeded jealousy for his daily routine at the surfside bar. Before long he becomes entangled with a huge cartel, rougue CIA agents, and a strange woman who seduced me as well as Hagen.
Full of strange recountances of unadulterated experimentation, passion, and oddities that must be read to give any justice to their strangeness, this was a great summer getaway book!
Hopefully Crone will not keep us waiting for another adventure.
