5Simply Not Enough Diversity In The Finance Industry   Aug 08, 2006
Simply Not Enough Diversity In The Finance Industry
A recent Equal Employment Opportunity Commission - EEOC report* noted that the Financial Industry including the Financial Services sector is an important aspect of the economy including banking, credit, securities and insurance activities. It offers many well-paying jobs, and is expected to see growth in the coming years. This report examined the Finance Industry with respect to the employment of women, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and American Indians/Alaskan Natives. This EEOC report highlighted the status of these groups in management positions. This 16 plus page report concludes that at the end of the day.there is great disparity in the Finance and the Financial Services sub sectors with respect to the employment of women, African Americans, Hispanics and Asians as officials and managers. The report states compared to the other sub sectors; the Securities sub sector consistently has the lowest percentage of women professionals (40.3 percent), and African Americans professionals (7.0 percent). The report also states that entry into management may be a particular concern for Asians in the Finance industry.
