Why Did You Create An Online Dating Profile ?

I created an online dating profile to meet new people and to jump-start my dating life. I moved to a new city after college and prior to posting online, I struggled to find men that I was interested in dating. As is the case for many young professionals, there's scant opportunity to meet the right person unless you have a vast social network, so my profile was meant to expand my search wider and include people I wouldn't meet in my everyday travels between work at a very small company, the gym, and my grad school classes. The internet provided an efficient &convenient way.

4Good But Not Great  Dec 11, 2006
By Allen Taylor
With the proliferation of online dating sites there is a huge demand for online dating books, and there are plenty out there. Most just deal with online dating in general, how to get the most out of it, what the benefits are, etc. Steve Monas' book "Chemistry and Numbers: The Online Dating Guide" is unique. It highlights the most popular dating sites online and gives a short review of each then a how-to on how to set up a profile.

One of the most useful parts of the book is the section at the beginning that offers some help for people interested in online dating. The help includes a short piece written by someone by the name of "Sabrine H.," who talks about why anyone would want to set up an online dating profile. There is also an introduction by the author and tips for online dating and for choosing a photo as well as some tips for online dating safety.

The screenshots for each of the web sites featured is helpful and the author also includes a little history of each site, what the best feature of each site is, what complaints users of the site have and even the web address for the web site's wikipedia entry.

The book's main focus is on the positives and negatives of the most popular dating sites online and a how-to set up a profile. There is also a site summary at the back of the book that tells you the cost of joining, how many photos each site allows, the sites' membership, URLs and when they were started. Another supplement lists some niche dating sites that is useful.
[...]

I was also disappointed to find that there weren't more race-based sites listed. There was an African-American dating site listed, but there weren't any Asian, Desi, Hispanic or other race-based niche sites on the list. However, all of the web sites listed cater to anyone of any race.

If you're looking for a dating web site to join, I'd recommend this book to help you choose which one(s).

4Chemistry and Numbers Gives You Something to Think About...  Dec 14, 2006
By T. Bowen "Faith"
Before Chemistry and Numbers I considered internet dating completely off limits. Too much of a risk, not secure enough, too many odd balls out there...etc. However, Chemistry and Numbers does a good job of presenting internet dating as a positive means of meeting people in a very mobile and busy society.

Given that many of our traditional ways of meeting people, you know the "guy next door falls in love with girl next door or high school sweet hearts marry at 19" type scenarios, are less frequent, Chemistry and Numbers suggests a way that fits right in with our computer/IM/email society. One comment in the book really had me thinking; will internet dating be as common place for dating as the card catalogue is when you select a book in the library? Something to think about...

Chemistry and Numbers step by step approach to some of the most popular sites is easy to understand, even for those of us who are not computer savvy. It also gives you some great decision making information such as cost involved, positive and negative aspects of the site, and the number of pictures you can post. Chemistry and Numbers is very helpful in narrowing down what site you want to go with.

Not sure if I will venture out there; I am too much of a traditionalist. Chemistry and Numbers really helped to enlighten me to internet dating. I may promote it more with my students who are a bit younger and more daring.

4Good basic guide to online dating services  Dec 12, 2006
By D Bradford
Having gotten my feet wet trying a couple of online dating sites a few years ago, Steve Monas' book "Chemistry and Numbers: The Online Dating Guide" gave me one big surprise right in the table of contents. I had no idea there were now so many online dating services. Monas has done all of the leg work here and has compiled information on all of the ones you've heard of, and on many that you probably haven't.

There are sections devoted to each site he's reviewed, including screenshots that take you through the registration process. While I like to consider myself fairly net savvy and felt that giving that much visual instruction was unnecessary, I imagine many people would find it a big plus, particularly those who've never registered for a dating site before and don't know what to expect.

I think one of the most useful features in the book is the information about how the sites match up members, telling which ones use detailed questionnaires and/or personality testing and which ones let you go in and sort out the wheat from the chaff for yourself. Thanks to Monas, if I ever have the need to try online dating again I now know exactly which sites I'd be interested in and which ones I will stay very far away from.

4A Great Start to Online Dating  Dec 14, 2006
By Kate Moss
What a great book. I've been thinking about online dating but have been afraid to take the plunge. There are just so many services to choose from. I am constantly getting emails of services to try and I just don't know which one to choose. Steve Monas, "Chemistry and Numbers: The Online Dating Guide", is just the book I've been looking for.

It not only gave me information on the different online dating services, it also covered how to sign up on the website, what photo's of myself I should use, and useful tips for each site. I also liked the safety tips he provided for online dating.

"Chemistry and Numbers: The Online Dating Guide", has given me the information I needed to get rolling in the online dating scene. I loved the book and would highly recommend it to anyone just getting started in online dating.

5Excellent Online Dating guide...  Dec 12, 2006
By John Coutts
Steve Monas has come up with one of the finest online dating guides I have ever seen in this offering. It has an extremely comprehensive overview of all (most at least) of the online dating sites. He takes you step by step through the registration process with screenshots - impressive for any newcomer, or old hand even...

Online dating has become big business. Perhaps the main reason can be summed up in a quote from Steve's book: "You meet people online that you normally don't meet on the streets." And it's safe too, when you know what you're doing. And if you don't know what you're doing, get Steve Monas' book! It doesn't have an abundance of text - mainly "how to" screenshots. But I feel that definitely adds to this book's charm.
