For all children and parents of divorce Jan 10, 2010

Jodi Hassler has identified one of the biggest struggles for children of divorce. Going back and forth between two homes can be confusing, scary, sad and frustrating. She has brilliantly combined her creative abilities with her strong therapeutic background to write Chip the Puppy with Two Homes. The colorful illustrations jump off the page and the heartwarming story of Chip's journey helps children see that there is a way to come to terms with their life changing family situation. Children love this book because they identify with Chip. They see Chip struggle and yet come to a place of acceptance and feel so loved by all of his family.
It is a perfect read for children and their parents. I have been recommending Jodi's CD of Chip to parents and am so excited that there is now a book. Every divorced family that comes to me will be introduced to Chip!
This is a fabulous resource for parents, attorneys, school counselors and therapists! Dec 28, 2009
By MARYANN KILDEBECK My hat's off to Jodi Hassler for creating such a wonderful resource for parents, attorneys, therapists and school counselors! One of the major issues a restructured family deals with is "two homes." It is so hard for parents to know what to say to children when they voice frustrations about living in two homes! Jodi has created a story with much of the child's perspective that parents need to remember, and the healthy thinking patterns for children to have when faced with the two-home situation that pulls on children's patience and loyalties.
My wish would be that every attorney would give this book to their clients at their initial interview with any client who intends to divorce and has young children. The book should be in every school or public library! Every therapist and every school counselor should have this book as a resource.
The book is perfect to read to the children who are younger, or could be given to age 9-12 children to read on their own at the very first signs of discomfort when exchanging homes for scheduled parenting times.
This book is beautifully written, therapeutically excellent - all with delightful drawings that capture the essence of Chip's dilemma trying to fit into two homes - even with people who love him in both homes.
I will use this book for every young client in my practice who has two homes to share - whether that is their focus on therapy or not!
