What an adventure! Feb 06, 2006
By P. Cash I very much enjoyed reading this book about a typical American mom who gave up everything and traveled to Costa Rica with her two kids. We get so caught up in how we live our lives, we forget that in other countries and other places life is totally different. What a brave person to leave all that is normal to travel to a foreign country and live without all the modern conveniences we take for granted. I hope Ms. Kohan has the opportunity to go back to live in Costa Rica; it certainly sounds like she loved it there.

Didn't want this book to end Sep 08, 2008
By Dena J. Fairbanks I am not normally a big reader but this book had me spellbound. I loved every page and have never laughed out loud and chuckled so much. It made me feel like I was with the writer every step of the way. I tried to read the book slowly so it wouldn't end so soon. I would love to hear that a sequal is coming out soon???
We are going to be moving to Costa Rica and Michele captures the Costa Rican lifestyle with great precision. Well done. Loved it. Please write more! Dena.

heartfelt Aug 17, 2008
By kbenn this is a very brave woman, who as a single mother moves with her children to work in the jungle of costa rica. i also moved to costa rica 2 years ago to have my daughter here with my boyfriend and i can relate very well to the shock and joy she experienced in her new life. her style is a bit different than mine though, as she remains fairly neutral and diplomatic in her musing on her cultural experiences. i am more opinionated, there are things i love here, and things i think are absolutely stupid. i understand her struggle, and was happy to have the glimpse in...

Living a dream Sep 28, 2006
By stay at home mom Great story. This woman and her children lived an adventure we can only dream about. She must be a very courageous and giving person. I hope the inhabitants of Costa Rica realize the compassion and good will she has for them. Ms Kohan and her family will enjoy a life time of memories from this experience.

A disappointment Aug 06, 2010
By Giwu I realize the author is not a celebrity and this was essentially a publication of her diary and emails, rather than a tell-all book, but in protecting her privacy, the book is lacking.
Basic Plot:
Woman completely relocates to Costa Rica with her two children and plans to live there for many years. Spend a lot of time complaining about the bugs and housing. Supposedly has an interesting job, but barely discusses it. Then after only a few months, moves back to the US, with little or no explanation.
If you know this woman, then I think you will thoroughly enjoy this book. For readers who are not personal acquaintences or family, this book is uninteresting. Why did she uproot her children (and maybe an ex-husband) to move to Costa Rica only to return in a few months? She makes references to having visited the country and area before, yet she spends a lot of time complaining about the bugs and living conditions. It is hard to be sympathetic to her situation, because of the lack of details. She supposedly has a job at a charity/social service group, yet she mentions little about her work.
I expected a lot more from the description. I think the average reader will be unimpressed by the lack of details, character descriptions and the massive amount of complaining that is done. I suggest you look for this book at your local library rather than pay money for it.
