Truly Entertaining Memoir Jan 25, 2012
By lydaalexander Circular Passage is a memoir of Robert V. Hardy's travels around the world - and his journey to find himself in the process. It is full of rich descriptions and adventures, as Hardy travels through various countries, seeing and learning everything he can. This book made me wish I could travel more, but I enjoyed escaping the seeing the world through Hardy's eyes for a bit. I'm looking forward to reading his next book, as well!

What a Treat! Jan 25, 2012
By J. Bunker

What a treat this book turned out to be! An interesting, engaging tale of one young man's circumnavigation of the globe. Bob Hardy had the bravery to follow his dream, give up everything (really, everything but a carefully packed backpack!) and travel the globe. I delighted in Bob's stories and snippets of history. It is is always wonderful to hear about history from someone who experienced it, not just studied it. The reactions people had to events is quite a snapshot of the times. This book woke long dormant dreams of my own, and has me itching to renew my passport. To travel with no ties gives one an exhilarating sense of freedom, as evidenced in this riveting memoir. The people he meets and cultures he gets to witness are a delight to anyone who enjoys reading about different locales. I would like to meet the author, to literally hear these stories again in his own voice. Very enjoyable memoir, can't wait to read the next one!

Circular Passage Jan 24, 2012
By Tina W. Martin At a young age Bob yearned to explore the world. His grandfather's stories, and later his summer trip to Europe as a student only added fuel to the fire of his desire to travel. When he met Kirby he saw a way to follow his dream. In 1966, they set out on an adventure to see the world. Bob left his job and family and sold his furniture. He left with a back pack, sleeping bag and a few possessions.Bob gives a vivid description of all of the countries, and sights that he experiences along his 16 month trip. He includes historical as well as funny stories that happen to him along the way. He tells of the living conditions in some places and makes us realize just how spoiled we are in the way that we live. The book makes you feel like you have experienced the countries with the beautiful scenery and different foods first hand. I enjoyed the book and would someday like to visit some of the places that Bob visited.

Courageous Journey Nov 11, 2009

COURAGEOUS JOURNEY: CIRCULAR PASSAGE is an intriguing, challenging and sometimes scary read. It is difficult to put down. Mr. Hardy's courage in accomplishing his trip around the world is an inspiration to any young person who has wanderlust and curiosity about other countries and cultures. The reader becomes involved with his adventures to the point that they can't wait to see what happens next. From the time he leaves his home in Oregon, travels across the vast United States, across the Atlantic Ocean and points east, the reader is captivated by the many different people he meets and the events that occur; some funny, some frustrating and some very frightening. One is enthralled by each of his experiences. My favorite sections of the book were the parts about Australia, particularly the scenery and the road trains. Australia is a part of the world I have always wished to visit. His arrival in Mexico and the facinating opportunity to read through his grandfather's old papers is especially interesting. Any historian or genealogist would be thrilled to have access to such treasures. For any reader who enjoys travel, learning about other cultures and their history or just likes to sit back with a good book, a page turner, this one is a must.

A wonderful journey. Nov 10, 2009
By Lonna H. In 1966, Bob Hardy made a choice that would change his life. At age 24, he turned down a promotion, sold his possessions and started his journey around the world. In this book, he shares with us what his life was like during this 16 month trip. Mr. Hardy is a very captivating writer who shares his adventures in a way that keeps the reader interested and even wondering if they could do the same. Times have changed, but what would it be like if you had the courage to do what he did?
This is the first memoir that I have read, and I must say that I was not disappointed. The great writing coupled with the interesting journey kept me turning pages late into the night. I for one am glad that Mr. Hardy decided to take the rest of the world along for the ride.
