Climate and Culture: Factors Enhancing Student Achievement for Gifted/Talented in Rural K-12 Schools

The authors bring into focus a review of four literatures of school conditions as related to climate, culture, gifted, and rural. Each of these is then juxtaposed with the other in an effort to reveal the interactive nature of actual conditions in today's public schools as suggested by recent findings from the respective research literatures. An historical backdrop describes early studies in climate and culture with definitions of each. Variables for measuring climate and culture are defined with examples. Recent findings on gifted in rural schools are discussed with extension to the impact of climate and culture in successful schools. The review contains seven concise chapters with summary and conclusions. Six tables are provided.
